I live in new york, which is very densly populated, but the city has a lot of open space so fires cant spread too much And most american houses are made out of concrete or brick

No lol. Like they literally have way less flammable materials in their homes. The sea air would damage anything flammable over time, too. Best not to have it in the first place.
