I’m surprised actually I thought this was a ML party with a platform similar to the CPA. CPA in comparison has a pretty good platform from what I can tell, they’re pro China.

Addit: I read their policy statement on PRC. Boils down to that they don’t believe CPC is currently practising socialism, reject the idea of an “initial stage of socialism” as claimed by the CPC. But they stress that this is a matter for the Chinese proletariat and thus do not support any colour revolutions against the CPC. This is one step better than the Trotskyists in my view. To be honest I think there is a legitimate theoretical discussion to be had around the path which Chinese socialism has taken and doing so doesn’t necessarily mean you’re “following liberal propaganda”. I think you can discuss pros and cons of the CPC approach without being an ultra. However any criticism must be based on facts. There is no oppression of minorities in China, this is a liberal fabrication. The “Imperialism” claim is hotly contested (by people much smarter than me on all sides) and certainly shouldn’t be presented as it is in this article without so much of a hint of examination into its validity.

Like I said, they use vaguely socialist language to cloak their liberal identities. They’re a bunch of do nothing uni students who joined a club to feel smugger than the average liberal without actually challenging that worldview in the slightest.

Personally I try to be a bit more charitable, despite the fact that these people would probably call me a tankie. I don’t agree with their line on these issues, but these groups (I’m also thinking about Socialist Alternative) tend to do some good work when it comes to domestic issues, so I try not to bash on them too hard even if their politics on global socialism are dogshit.

Some groups are just misguided, yes. But others actively harm socialist causes by willfully misinforming the people about what socialism is. I was a “socialism works in theory, but not in practice” kind of shitlib for most of my life, because of groups like this just agreeing with the liberal status quo about socialist nations.

When even the self-proclaimed “communists” don’t actually support socialist states, it is easy for a lib to keep their “literally 1984” mindset.

The thing that changed my mind was meeting and talking to actual, real communists, not controlled opposition like these LARPers and feds.

People like this will never challenge the status quo and will never educate the masses. The “good” they do is showing up impotently at a climate protest and doing nothing of note. They’re the worst kind of scumbag, deceptive, smug and condescending.

They are liberals in all but name. They exist only as a means to funnel people away from real socialist causes.

I am just speaking specifically about the CPAus here though, other groups might be simply misguided. These guys though, when our government announces concentration camps for people of Asian descent, they’ll be amongst the loudest cheerleaders because our government is “standing up to the wrong kind of communism and stopping those evil Chinese spies.”

I know a friend of mine had a kinda bad experience with ACP as well. Do you really think they’d be supporting concentration camps? Cause that’s pretty extreme and I’m very skeptical that they’re that bad. Even most libs would oppose that.

Australia already has concentration camps for refugees and most of our libs support it. It’s already in the national zeitgeist that we “need them” to “keep our country safe.”

I don’t think it is much of a stretch for most Australians to jump from “evil potential terrorists” to “evil potential spies.”

I will admit it is probably hyperbole that these guys would actually support such a thing. They’d probably hand wring and talk about how bad it is, but not actually do anything against it. That’s more their style.
