Hey folks, I thought I should pop in and make a quick post given the surge in signups at lemmy and the rapidly growing subscriber number of this community.
First of all, when I created it I didn’t really put any thought into the future, I just wanted to hear and talk about disclosure news. For that reason, I did not attempt to define any rules or guidelines. As it stands, with about 700 subscribers, we still don’t have enough engagement to really be concerned about moderation. It also helps that most people seem to be fairly well-behaved on lemmy so far, but that may change soon as reddit refugees continue to flood in. If it becomes an issue I will define rules and gather moderators as needed.
Secondly, if you see posts in other UFO/UAP communities that are missing here, perhaps you would consider cross-posting them. I certainly miss plenty of things.
Finally, thank you to everyone who has been posting valuable content here! We are currently the top UFO community on the lemmyverse as far as I can tell, and I hope that we can continue to spread knowledge about what is ostensibly the most ridiculed topic in recent history in a sane and reasonable way.
~🛸 Cheers,
Daughter of Mars
Keen to see this community grow. I don’t wanna skulk back to reddit for my UFO news.
If we could take the UFOs sub and get them to migrate here that would be perfect. Given time I think it will.
Yeah! Maybe not…everyone from that sub though…
Sorry I don’t know why it just spam posted lmao, my comment was
Lmao yeah on second thought maybe not everyone

There are two things slowing down the migration. One is the “network effect” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_effect (which is really strong in reddit) and other is the confusion and bugginess of Lemmy right now as lemmy is still in its infancy. Decentralization makes this a bit confusing to use and it doesn’t help that some posts etc are not showing up due to bugs or lack of features so you are not sure if the problem is you or lemmy but regardless of all that, federation is better than the reddit empire so we’re on the right track
I’m excited to see your community grow, keep it up!
Thanks for kicking off the forum for us. I’m looking forward to being a part of it.
Never really visited the sub much on Reddit until Grusch popped up but this disclosure thing drew me in as a lurker. Now that I’m on lemmy, I decided what the heck and subscribed. Looking forward to many interesting conversations and a rational exchange of crazy ideas!
I’d like to suggest that the strictly non-partisan rules of the UFOs subreddit was a good thing that helped keep people focused and avoided tribalist bickering. In that vein, it might be a good idea to remove the reference to 45 in the community header image, and replace it with “Congress” as Congress are the ones leading a current bipartisan push to determine whether they’ve been lied to or not.
Nah, it’s funny
The lack of serious reply to discuss it isn’t encouraging. To be clear, I also find it funny and don’t like 45 at all, but that’s not the point. What made that sub successful was that it was a serious place that was well moderated. Branding is important if you want something taken seriously.
I agree, partisanship is everywhere on the internet nowadays. With a topic like this, especially it’s reputation, I feel it’s important to filter out irrelevant, petty, politics and focus more on the topic, as it’s relates to existence in itself.
I’m here for some fun, let’s make this community awesome.
For all that don’t want to open Reddit, there’s an instance archiving posts to lemmy (lemmit.online) you can follow and crosspost to other communities !ufos@lemmit.online
When I view the community through the lemmy instance I’m using, I’m seeing no posts there. I guess this is a problem related to vlemmy but just putting it out here if someone else is having the same problem and is confused https://vlemmy.net/c/ufos@lemmit.online
edit: now it shows the reddit threads there, so probably as I understand vlemmy hadn’t seen them yet (as no one in vlemmy had been accessing the community yet) and it took it some hours(?) to sync the stuff from another instance.

It looks like other subs have bots that automatically cross post to Lemmy. Would be nice for this sub.
Cross post from where?
