Hi folks!

I have a modem/router from my ISP and an OpenWRT router that I would like to use as my main router. Would anyone have any tips on how to configure my OpenWRT router to work as my main router? I watched some videos on YouTube about Bridge Mode but it wasn’t very clear to me.

Every help is welcome.

Each modem is different. The idea is you convert the modem to bridge/passthrough mode and your desired router WAN interface is set for DHCP so it queries the ISP nexthop for a public IP directly.
Some isps can help with the modem config if you call them and ask for bridge/passthrough, but it shouldn’t be too bad to find because consumer modems don’t have very many settings.

You don’t really need to do much, and you don’t need bridge mode. You’re looking to just use your ISP’s modem as only a gateway and your router as a router. Connect your router’s wan port to the lan port of the modem and then only connect things to your router. You can disable the wireless on the modem if it has it.
