"Scheduled downtime: 17th June, 9am CDT/2pm UTC" on Hexbear
www.hexbear.net"We are planning on doing the final site migration to upstream Lemmy this Saturday.
We are currently unsure exactly how long we need for the entire process. Our estimate is around **12 hours** of total downtime; we'll update this post when we have a more accurate estimate.
Hexbear will be inaccessible during this time. For updates on progress on the day, please follow us on Twitter: https://twitter.com/chapo_chat
Whilst we'll gain the ability to federate with other Lemmy & Mastodon instances, **federation will initially be disabled**. More on this in future posts.
---
We expect to encounter a few more UX-related bugs after the relaunch that will require more work, so if you are open to volunteering a bit, we are looking for **frontend developers** who can help figure out and fix some of those UX issues. If you think you can help, please send me a message on Element ([@layla:chapo.chat](https://matrix.to/#/@layla:chapo.chat)) .
Finally, none of this is possible without your continued support! If you enjoy the site, please consider donating via our [Liberapay](https://liberapay.com/hexbear) or [Patreon](https://www.patreon.com/hexbear) :hexbear-retro:

It’s happening, folks
vast majority of it is from the reddit thing. It had nice slow growth the last year but it exploded the last couple weeks
Wild. I dismissed the reddit thing as some niche, performative stunt a few libs there would screech about for a day or two and didn’t really pay attention to it beyond that. Didn’t expect more than a couple handful of people making the switch tbh…seems like I was off by an order of magnitude or two lol
Hope hexbear joins soon, then the based peoples combined can effectively stir some shit on /All and scare the libs there
tbh I thought they might get bored and leave soon too, but it’s honestly starting to reach the point where we’re starting to see actual network effects popping up, I honestly think most of these new users will stay.
And I have the same hope about hexbear lol
Well it seems reddit admins stepped in, removed the mods of the blackout subs and reopened them. This pissed off a lot of people.
and now half the posts on Reddit are gonna be low effort garbage and bots. which is exactly what it deserves, but it’s still a bummer for the niche subreddits.
