Some of the instances that we have chosen to defederate with have explicit political stances and ideologies. Their political stance and ideology had nothing to do with the choice to defederate. The choice to defederate was based on the amount of hate speech present on the instance and/or explicitly endorsing it.

What fucking hate speech, you weasly, lying shitlib. Your kind cheers on Russian deaths, calling them “orcs”, then you have the audacity to accuse us of hate speech? Go on, make more orientalist posts about China, and then come back and lecture us on hate speech.

The only “hate speech” I have is the hate for your dogshit, genocidal politics.

Our instance explicitly disallows and bans bigotry, and he’s going around posting this shit

Edit: And thinking about it more, the admins are basically agreeing going “fuck the devs we would switch off if we could”, after everything the devs did to placate them, offering to pay for server hosting, putting them and not us on the reccomended server list, explicitly pinning posts asking people to go else where, and they’re still shitting on them for “muh evil tankies!!!”. The devs should have never listened to these whining liberals, and I think should maybe defederate from beehaw themselves like holy fuck you can’t trust liberals for anything

Wait, chill. Won’t comments like this give them an example of “hate-speech” they can use against this instance? If they lie, it’s their problem. Hopefully their users realize it, but if not, we don’t need to feed into their narrative and prove their point. This is my opinion, anyway.

Edit: I have already been convinced I was wrong. I’ll still leave this comment up, despite the downvotes, so that replies still make sense.

From where I sit, they’ll take anything that isn’t full-throated subordination as hate speech; so why play their game? I literally do not give the first fuck about what they think. You do raise a fair point; but only in the context of if you’re willing to play the game by their conditions. Which I’m not.

I stand strongly with you, comrade.

But. Public words matter. And I agree with the other comrade that commented this. We should be able to control our tone to the forum we’re in. There’s place for easy words, there’s place for kindness, there’s place for anger.

Front pages in here should be overwhelmingly thoughtful, in my opinion. And then there’s a place for trash talk somewhere less front facing, in here.

Plain angered reasoning won’t convince many people to hear us.

Edit: actually, I’m wrong this is freechat, fuck them.

In reddit the two red flags were usually “no hate speech” and “no politics”. As in “if we disagree with you politically we’ll suppress you, and if you try to make a fuss about it, we’ll consider it hate speech and ban you”.

The other combo was “this is a safe space” and “no politics” as in “this is a safe space to be chauvinistic and racist, but daring to speak out against it is considered politics and we’ll ban you”.

This fucking clown has hit the trifecta…

Edit: it’s very telling how that mod and many of the commenters are considering forking just because lemmy was created, is developed and maintained by “tankies”. Safe space my ass…

They fear being treated the same as they treated us on reddit, but they also want to continue treating us like that.

I don’t mean “playing the game by their conditions”. More like “kill them with kindness”. Their instance still has members whose opinions can be swayed, and if they learn this instance is banned, visit, and encounter hateful posts, justified as they may be, they may not stay very long. Though I do understand your frustration.

Sorry, but here in America we don’t tolerate any kind of hate. That includes hate towards our passion to to keep as many people malnourished as possible. Thank you for your understanding :)

You’re right, we are human. And as another commenter said, this is freechat. We should be able to express ourselves and to have a safe space to do that. I’m new here, so still learning. I’m really liking how passionate people are. :)

I just meant it was an aggressive tone, which might put off new members. Also, I might have equated “hate speech” with speech in which you show hate for something (ex, an admin team). Which is clearly wrong looking back, but I won’t edit it now.

Do as you will, I just suggest not conflating the two in the future. I think if anything communicating a passionate disdain for people like Beehaw’s lying admins (along with Democrats, Republicans, Blairites, etc) would be a positive for new user interest.

Ye, I’ll try. It was an honest mistake.

I think if anything communicating a passionate disdain for people like Beehaw’s lying admins […] would be a positive for new user interest.

I’d have to read more about the history between Beehaw’s admin and this Lemmy instance. I won’t blindly passionately disdain them, but clearly there is some history here which I’m not aware of, so if anything, I’ll think twice before “both-siding” this.

(along with Democrats, Republicans, Blairites, etc)

We’re on the same page here. ;)
