Apparently it’s not allowed for muslims to give me salam but nothing saying I can’t initiate it.
Given this, do people expect me to initiate a salam? Or do I just say hi and go about my day.
Context: muslim friends at school
I have Persian friends, most of whom are not religious. I greet them in Farsi pretty regularly.
Yeah I had a Pakistani friend in high school and I greeted him in arabic but I’m not sure all people are that welcoming. I might just ask my new Jordan friend what he’s comfortable with.
It is allowed for Muslims to give salam to anybody. Who told you they can’t?
It’s in the hadith
‘Do not greet the Jews and the Christian’s before they greet you, and when you meet any of them on the road force him to go to the narrowest part of it’ [Sahih Muslim 2167a -Book 39, Hadith 16]
This explains the behavior of BMW drivers in Berlin.
