Extropic is building an entirely new type of computing hardware that is designed from the ground up to be incredibly energy efficient at running generative AI models. We call our new type of hardware the thermodynamic sampling unit, or TSU.
I would love some of these for Monte Carlo simulations
If they have a reasonable price I think there’s big opportunity here
Monte Carlo to compute the digits of pi to arbitrary precision? Or some more advanced uses?
Advanced uses. I already know pi is 3ish.
What other kind of advanced uses are there?
Makes sense to create hardware dedicated to AI models. Especially since it will make them run faster and it will cut down on the power requirements for datacenters.
It’s too bad they’re slightly straying from the current acronyms. I’ll have to remember to call them TSUs instead of TPUs.
