Recently watched Babylon (2022) again, and to me, somehow these kinds of pictures are admiring. A sprinkle of filmmaker’s indulgence and hoping for audiences to trust his work — a risky move. PTA’s Magnolia (1999), The Deer Hunter (1978) and Wachowskis x Tykwer’s Cloud Atlas adaptation are overwritten and deliberately paced but damn, how these pros made these works re-watchable.
