Valve dev counters calls to scrap Steam AI disclosures, says it’s a “technology relying on cultural laundering, IP infringement, and slopification”

Currently, any game that used generative AI in the development process must disclose it on its Steam page. Recent big names to feature an AI disclosure include Arc Raiders for its robots’ movement animations and text-to-speech system, and Call of Duty Black Ops 7, which is using AI tools to help “empower” its developers. Ayi Sanchez, a Valve artist who had a hand in Counter-Strike 2’s remake of Train last year, has come to the defence of AI disclosures. In a final message to Workman, the Valve dev says that we shouldn’t “excuse a technology [relying] on cultural laundering, IP infringement and slopification.” As a result, Steam’s disclosures are a valuable tool for me as the lines between human and AI creations continue to blur. 🖊️️🤖

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 takes home an absurd 9 wins at The Game Awards, more than Baldur’s Gate 3 in 2023

The Game Awards has concluded, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the big winner, taking home Game of the Year and nine awards in total. The last big Game Awards sweep was Baldur’s Gate 3 in 2023, but it only managed to take home six awards that year. Although BG3 did win the Best Community Support award in 2024, and then again this year, so the two RPGs are almost even. Below are all the nominees and winners from the 2025 Game Awards. Devblog #50: Microbe Stage Complete!

This release marks the completion of the Microbe Stage, the first stage of the 9 planned. The Microbe stage will continue to be supported with balancing and bug fix updates, and volunteers are welcome to continue to make contributions to it. From this first generation of development onwards, the fundamentals of Thrive’s Microbe Stage were hammered out. And now - through collaboration, community, and the efforts of hundreds of volunteers, working towards an often-times impossibly distant horizon - we welcome a feature-complete Microbe Stage. The good news is that the next Stage makes use of a lot of the same mechanics that the Microbe Stage does. 🖊️️🤖

BTIC is a fully independent project by one person. Publishing independently is crucial. After considering many options, I chose Lemmy as the best platform. The code is easily checked—test it on old hardware! Downloads are limited until an unknown future point.

I’ll answer questions here for a time.

Thx, good luck, have fun!

Some chances never return.
