An Outbreak of deadly Nipah Virus from Bengal, In India has left many asian countries on guard as countries like Thailand have started monitoring their passengers who took flight from Bengal. Nepal too has started monitoring passengers landing in Kathmandu and at border points from India. The Virus spreads from Animals to Humans, and has a high death ratio of 40-75%.
The Nipah Virus can spread from Animal to human, human to human and even from contaminated food. The World Health Organization has described Nipah in its top ten priority diseases, along with pathogens like Covid-19 and Zika, because of its potential to trigger an epidemic.
It has an ncubation period of 14 days. Initial symptoms may include fever, headaches, muscle pain, vomiting and sore throat. In some people, these may be followed by drowsiness, altered consciousness, and pneumonia. Some people don’t show symptoms at all.
Lets hope things go well and we don’t have to face another Covid level threat.
