A famous graphic, now updated, compares locomotion in the animal kingdom and shows that cycling is one of the most efficient.
I’d be curious how e-bikes change that - I assume the graphic is about pedal bikes and that e-bikes are somewhat less efficient, but pedal assist for hills is what got me actually biking 99% of the time for ~last-mile transit.
They are actually more efficient if you’re not a vegan (about equal if you are), because there’s more energy wasted in the raising of animals and converting that into energy for your body than just charging the battery of the ebike.
