Hey everyone,

My bad for forgetting to post a thread last week. Since then I’ve been continuing to work on Ragnarok and I’ve started Super Mario Wonder with my wife, and a bit with my daughter. I haven’t played too much of Wonder but it really is fantastic so far.

BG3 and Spider-man 2 are next in line and currently on the back burner. I really don’t want to have to juggle 4 games at once but I might have to play some Spider-man 2 soon.

Also in the last week I beat Cocoon. All I can say is…play it. It’s beautiful, the puzzles are great and ramp in difficulty nicely. I know Playdead didn’t make this one, but the comparisons to Limbo and Inside I think are still valid. If you liked those games I would definitely give it a try. I think it’s better than Limbo, and on par with Inside. Idk if I can say it’s better than Inside, but it’s definitely not worse. It’s right there with it I think. I can see how some might like Inside more though. I don’t want to say too much but as far as character, level, and art design, multiple times while playing I remember asking myself, “How did this come out of someone’s mind?” It’s so very alien in all the right ways. Give it a go. I beat it in about 3-4 hours and I’m still thinking about the ending and the whole experience and what it all means.

Anyway, what’re you all up to this week?

I got the platinum on the 26th and there was 7% of players with it at that time. It’s interesting to note that between then and now, an extra 3% of players have gotten the platinum (according to the PS App).

I do appreciate that Insomniac have platinums in their last few games that are very achievable - no arbitrary or onerous trophies. You can play, have fun, and usually be most of the way to the platinum with minimal fuss.

Beat Death’s Door. I thought it was a simple solid game but after discovering and solving more and more secrets after the final boss, I have to give it a higher rating. They’re aren’t too easy, not too cryptic, and satisfying to solve. It’s fantastic.

Arkham Knights because it is included on PS Extra. I immediately hated the damage sponge enemies and switch difficulty to very easy. Not every game needs to have RPG elements.

        Compared to Elden Ring :

        • the combat is faster. The game expects you to attack and not to wait for the opportunity. For example, when an enemy attacks you and you defend with your shield. You loose temporary hit points that you recover only by attacking. If you get hit, you loose all these temporary hit points. It will depend on what gameplay you like.
        • I struggle much more on Elden Ring for the reason above. So for me, Elden Ring is more difficult.
        • it’s very linear for the moment like the old souls (20 hours of game time). It’s not an open world. But the game design of the old souls is better.
        • The customization of your character is very much like the souls. No winner here.
        • The overall ambiance of the game is amazing.
        • The two worlds feature is not really interesting. The mechanic faded pretty quickly for me. It’s now more annoying than the wow effect at the beginning of the game

I think it’s a good game. There are definitely some flaws but I’m enjoying the experience.

I just got invited to the beta on steam. I thought it was an open beta anyway, but maybe I was wrong. I really want to check it out but I won’t have too much time this weekend unfortunately

I just started Nioh, after finishing Demon’s Souls.

I feel Nioh is much more difficult than Demon’s Souls. I am still in the starting area, and just reached the first boss after dieing dozens of times.

My original goal was to go back to Dragon Quest XI after Demon’s Souls, but I was itching for more action / souls-like games, and Nioh has been on my backlog for a very long time.

Alan wake 2, it’s so. Good. If you’re into world building, it’s one of those games that benefits massively from knowing the universe. There’s things in this from 20 years ago.

Play the first alan wake for sure. If you want the whole experience then also Play Control, if you want the godlike experience go and find a copy of Max Payne and Play that too

I’ve played all the Max Paynes (super stoked for the remake also). I have Alan Wake Remastered from PS+ and I also haven’t started Control yet but I have that too.

Should I play AW before Control?

You can play Control without playing Alan Wake, but the DLC might make more sense if you have played Alan Wake before.

I played it without playing AW, and still enjoyed it, though playing that made me interesting in Alan Wake, before that I wasn’t interested in playing it, as I am not a big fan of survivor horror games.

me neither but with AW2 getting all this good press, I think I might have to plat AW Remastered before control, then alan wake 2.

But that’s all after Ragnarok, Spiderman 2, and Sea of Stars. Did I also mention I picked up Returnal recently? ugh, too much fun to be had

How are the graphics? I’d like to get it but I’m a bit worried about the reports that it renders at like 320p and upscales it using FSR2 with lots of artifacts.

I dont know what resolution it’s running at. It looks absolutely fine. If you care about art and visual style, then it’s full of it

If pixel counting is in your head, it might not be right for you. I guess just try to enjoy things instead of being worried about that stuff?

I game on a 77” OLED so if it’s a low resolution it just looks terrible.

I also have a big oled! I even play tg16 games on it. Crazy huh. It’s almost like the art is important, not the specs.

It’s not really limiting. I don’t have much time for video games (adulting) so I can be selective in what games I play (only the best in graphics, gameplay, etc.) and still fill all my available gaming time.
