I like @jetbrains products. They’re not without issues, but on the whole, good enough and powerful enough to make my life simpler while coding.

Just installed the EAP for WebStorm & PhpStorm and wondered WTF was going on with the delayed caret movement… they’ve decided to waste time and resources adding a ‘smooth caret movement’ that essentially just adds lag. WTaF would any serious developer want to deliberately add lag to their caret!? Weird direction lately with shitty “fluffy” aesthetics.

@jetbrains Settings -> Editor -> Appearance -> ‘Use Smooth Caret movement’ checkbox will take you back to sanity and less for the vibe-coding JS kiddies 👍🏻

@jetbrains Eeek… another stupid “fluffyism” in the 2026.* EAPs… ‘Use Smooth Caret Blinking’ (under the same editor appearance settings)…

This gem increases the CPU on my laptop on average ~10-20%… for what!?

Honestly JetBrains… get a grip or at least disable this useless shit by default. Most of the kiddies have already moved to cursor or some other vibe-coding prompt editor… stay true to the real developers who have entrusted your software for years to be the leading IDEs.

@jetbrains The uselessisms so far encountered:

        - Deliberate caret movement lag
        - Soft, fluffy caret blinking
        - “Shimmer effect” fake text backdrops behind an existing loading spinner
        - Soft fluffy corners for highlighted text (really!?)
        - Soft fluffy ‘rounded corner everything’ island themes (though this has also just been released in the latest 2025 release too)… what was wrong with squareness on a square screen? Tabs are just rounded buttons now

This year could be my last all-apps sub.
