I originally started writing to ask specifically how LBRY works, with skepticism to if it actually is providing any functional redundancy, but now I’m not seeing LBRY links on GCI.
In case LBRY is still relevant, how does it work? I keep telling friends of mine that the entire compendium of GCI is mirrored on an immutable blockchain; but I’m not actually certain if that’s true. I understand how blockchains typically tokenize data, and usually they store a reference to a download location – a text link of a URL. In the case of NFT’s each token entity is a reference to a single AWS database, and that server is a single point of failure. Does LBRY work this way? Or is it somehow compressing and storing the actual file? A blockchain of links all stored on one server is functionally just requires a second C&D to overcome, and provides little redundancy compared to distributed file-sharing techniques.
Additionally, where can one find a mirror to the entire compendium of the GCI. A one-click button to ‘download it all.’ Do we have lists of mirrors? Guides to mirroring? As our community is facing down an ever-growing chimera of legal pressure and these files could functionally disappear off any one (or more) platform overnight. What sort of redundancy and availability are we encouraging and chronicling for the future of the 3D2A community?
