Spread on roads, salt lowers the freezing point of ice, making it melt faster and making roads safer. But there's a problem with using salt on snowy roads.

This sounds neat but I am frustrated that it didn’t cover the mechanism by which organic waste helps with de-icing. Is it a chemical reaction? Or something to do with the fibers? Even WSUs article doesn’t really explain it.https://news.wsu.edu/news/2019/12/02/sustaining-roads-grape-agricultural-waste/

Yeah, I wish they would have went into more details, but I’m glad to see it happening and I hope it works!

recently saw something where they said the method was quite effective, i.e. deiceing properly and reducing salt released into the environment, but at the same time it elevated biological oxygen demand. depending on the environment, the later might be worse

Let’s stop with the doomscrolling. We’re living in an age of unprecedented wealth, with millions entering the middle class every year.

People live longer than ever before, with better nutrition, and better medicine than ever in our history.

This is also the most peaceful time in our history, with record lows in crime and wars.

The developing world is surging in wealth and in the west we have more opportunity and access to information than ever.
