I.e. using your phone on public wifi at Starbucks, your data is encrypted and obfuscated so anybody on the public wifi can’t see your data. Yeah your traffic still looks like it’s coming from your home network but it’s a free and secure way to protect yourself on other networks. Plus like others have said it’s handy to have access to your home network at times.
