To claim Le Duan lead Vietnam astray from socialism is ridiculous. His economic reforms were, in all senses, quite mild. Doi Moi wasn’t truely instituted till after he was dead and it’s still ridiculous to call Doi Moi a rejection of socialism.

Pol Pot attacked Vietnam in 1978 and Vietnam overthrew him as a response. He had already been killing ethnic Vietnamese in Cambodia since 1977.

Unfortunately yeah, our mod team is very pro-Maoist at the moment, and are very welcoming to “all.” We’ve got nice people there, but it isn’t really a place to discuss socialism anymore.

I might have gotten the group wrong. I know the user though and the group he was in with me was like this. I might be wrong about the group but the one I thought of was a Juche one. The user was like this for quite a while and defended by many other members whilst saying ridiculous things

He’s saying that Pol Pot only accepted US aid in response to the war with Vietnam (which he fails to mention Cambodian aggression against Vietnam and Vietnamese minorities in Cambodia) and that Le Duan instituted something similar perestroika and that Vietnam was simply a capitalist imperialist country against DK. His claims are ridiculous and a bastardization and lies about the actual hisotry of the region in order to make Pol Pot look better because “oh he fought against imperialist Vietnam” which is absolutely untrue

In the world, socialism is facing critical challenges to its economic, scientific and technical development. It needs to re-perceive itself to change policies accordingly. The cause of perestroika and reform in the socialist countries, though bringing about initial achievements, has not yet created drastic changes. A number of fresh issues emerging during the process should be carefully considered.

    -Nguyen Phu Trong

    JereSuomi brought this up, thoughts?

sounds really sus to me. If you can find the original source in Vietnamese, let me know. I really want to try learning more about my own country communist party.
