The show is super liberal though. It’s basically a liberal fantasy where if you have the right all-knowing rulers in charge they can totally make a capitalist society where there is no poverty or homelessness and everyone can live a cozy middle class life. The cutie marks are primarily used as a metaphor for puberty, but carry with them the very unfortunate implication that whatever you’re good at as a teenager is what you’re going to be stuck doing for the rest of your life, so you better hope that fate gives you a “spreadsheet manager” mark and not a “back breaking labourer” one.
We should all remember My Little Pony predates the late 2000s and were mostly toys, so this was a way of re-using molds and color schemes. Also everyone should check out this incredibly mean spirited 90s attempt at a MLP reboot:
Yes it’s a 40 minute review of a failed cartoon but it’s hilarious and Allison Preggler rules in general, her Star Trek reviews slap and she’s bothering to watch and review all of Baywatch for us mortals.
Wait, those marks tell people what they’re best at? Oof, how… Neoliberal

a pastelwashed caste system? in my ostensibly-for-little-girls animated series? It’s likelier than you think
