Something I have noticed. I’m not sure if its just an issue on this instance or as lemmy as a whole. With my account on kbin I can access all of the SDF communities, but I can’t do the inverse. I can’t seem to interact with kbin magazines from here.

Not sure whats going on or if I missed something.Anyone else here notice this?

Now that you mention it, it looks like none of the kbin magazines I tried to subscribe to here actually worked.

Sorta related: Is anyone at SDF considering starting a kbin instance? (Apparently the Lemmy devs are condoning some unsavory stuff on their own instances, and while the whole point of decentralization is “if one goes south then you can just switch to another”, I get why some people want to take things a step further.)

I saw that. The whole lemmygrad.ml instance is concerning. Especally since I think its unironic. At the same time it doesn’t make the Lemmy software (which is open source) compromised.

That being said. I would be happy if SDF hosted a kbin instance. I would probably use that instead since it works really well with Lemmy as well. I understand that they can only focus on one thing at a time though. I trust SDF for long term hosting so I’ll probably stick to being here but a kbin instance would be nice.

Thanks for pointing that out! Its been noticed by a lot.

Yeah, the argument for ditching Lemmy entirely is “these are the devs themselves, even by using other instances you’re indirectly promoting them”. The counterargument is “the more instances that don’t fit their style, the more you’re diluting said style”.

Compare/contrast e.g. Mastodon and its default instance (mastodon.social, iirc):

        • There are a lot more Mastodon instances than Lemmy instances
        • Some of them are more obviously problematic than m.s (e.g. Truth Social)
        • ISTR criticism of m.s being lower-key on its own, like “too big, stuff lost in shuffle” and/or “too slow to defed obviously problematic instances”

I can’t manage to access anything from kbin.social through the jerboa app, is that a bug?
