Ironically, shows that do what they describe are the reason they end up in the background while I’m doing chores. It’s a chore to actually sit and watch because of how much is repeated. They’ll never be more than mediocre media because of it. But that’s fine. Not everything has to be best picture quality. It gives me options depending on what I’m doing.

politics @lemmy.world•U.S. Seeks to Expedite Deportation of 5-Year-Old Liam Conejo Ramos
2·7 days agoHere’s the content of the bill, https://www.congress.gov/bill/118th-congress/senate-bill/4361?overview=closed. The summary leaves out some things, like the increased detention capacity. You’ve got to read the entire bill to find stuff like that.
There looks to be some good things baked into the bill but overall it seems to be a pretty bad bill. And that’s assuming the bill isn’t abused by the president.

15·7 days agoFor most of them, it’s never been about getting rid of illegal immigrants. It’s been about all immigrants. Which I find ridiculous because if you go back in most people’s history you’ll see that one or more of their ancestors immigrated to the US. Classic pulling up the ladder behind you. Technically, all white people immigrated to the US, but even if you only start counting from the founding of the country what I said is still true.

News@lemmy.world•Average American has just $955 saved for retirement, study finds
71·7 days agoI’m pretty sure I did. Where do you think the money for retirement comes from? Whatever they are spending on non-necessities. Sure, some people can do that without completely forgoing luxuries, but we’re talking about the low end of income here. For any meaningful retirement, and that’s a maybe, it really is forgoing any nicities for a long time.

83·7 days agoYea, just what people want to do. Spend basically on only necessities for years/decades just so they may have an opportunity to retire. Sounds like a great plan.

I don’t understand why people don’t get charged in situations like this. Even if it wasn’t on purpose, it was entirely his fault. It’s extremely rare for a gun to go off accidentally.
Charges for extreme recklessness leading to death also seem to be too rare. Not just for guns, but also for cars and other things.
