Howdy! Mind if I ask why you didn’t give any of those recordings a try? There’s nothing even remotely dangerous about dabbling in hypnosis, you won’t be turned into a mindless slave overnight – alas, some might say.
So you asked how it all works and the most sincere answer I can give you is that, well, it doesn’t really work. Not at first at any rate, it’s basically just role-playing.
Hypnosis can become something much more powerful, but that takes a lot of hard work and perseverance from both the hypnotist and – crucially – the subject.
Hypnosis is perfect to fall asleep to! And you absolutely don’t need to stay mentally engaged, you’re supposed to zone out and stop paying attention after a while (that’s when all the wicked suggestions get implanted without you noticing…) So don’t give up now, you may already be on the right track.
Also, a proper hypnosis session should be at least half an hour long, IMHO. Don’t let that put you off though; once you zone out you don’t really perceive time passing by, it’s like being half asleep.
I don’t have anything in particular to recommend right now, off the top of my head. I’ll have a look through my bookmarks and start posting some stuff over the coming days, it might be a good way to get some activity going in here.
