BlueLineBae@midwest.socialto Work Reform@lemmy.world•Iceland approved the 4-day workweek in 2019: nearly 6 years later, all the predictions made have come true.English41·2 days agoI was lucky enough to experience the 4 day work week for 1 glorious year. I used my extra day to schedule weekday appointments without taking time off, taking care of chores so I could enjoy the weekend more, and doing more hobbies when I wasn’t doing those other 2 things. It was the best quality of life I ever had.
I was going to say, I didn’t have Internet until college we still had CD-ROMs, game consoles, and of course the public library for Internet when needed. Not that these options aren’t excellent free entertainment.
BlueLineBae@midwest.socialto Science Memes@mander.xyz•memes from my biology class #6English71·10 days agoI know this isn’t what you want to hear, but the real trick to managing pests in your home, is to allow the right predator pests to exist. The best ones are spiders and centipedes. Centipedes are especially the best because they won’t ever hurt you, they mostly stay out of sight, and they don’t leave webs hanging around. But when you do see one you will probably freak the fuck out. You just have to remember that they eat earwigs and mites and such and try not to kill them. Spiders are also great to keep around, but there should be a big asterisk about how I live in Illinois and most spiders are harmless here.
You mean they “w” don’t know.

For me it’s a JewelOsco way to travel 😆
I had a super cool N64 film camera that I took with me to sleepovers and took lots of shitty photos with because I was a dumbass kid that didn’t know anything about photography.

I hadn’t built one in over a decade and was shocked to find out that everything is toolless and just snaps right into place! The only part that’s maybe intimidating for newbies is putting the thermal paste down without making a mess but even then, you just go slow and take your time and you’ll be fine.

When I say this, my dog always does a double take. Like his head shoots straight up and he looks around excited, but he doesn’t freak out until I say it again and confirm that we are, in fact, going for a walk.
BlueLineBae@midwest.socialto World News@lemmy.ml•Harry Potter creator goes on rant about asexuals for some reason 🤷🏽♂️English15·24 days agoThere are a strange amount of people who seem to hate the idea of asexuality and this unfortunately includes people from all swaths of life like the LGBTQ+ community. I’ve seen too many gay people say hurtful, and frankly hypocritical, things along the lines of asexuality not existing and being more akin to a disease. It seems that while more people have become aware and accepting of homosexuality, they still don’t understand asexuality and it scares them. Sad really. But luckily there are still lots of kind souls out there that will be accepting of anyone who’s accepting in return. Maybe they can show everyone else the way…

The 5 second rule doesn't apply when you have a 2 second dog.English4·25 days agoMy childhood dog was a rescue that was originally a stray dog. This dog would catch flies right out of the air! It didn’t take long for us to discover that he was so fast, nothing ever touched the ground. I once lost a whole waffle to him when it slipped off my plate and went seemingly direct into his mouth.

BlueLineBae@midwest.socialto Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Ah yes, Because That Is What Makes a Good LogoEnglish60·26 days agoIn my experience, most people have simply never thought about it before. If someone decides they want to open a bakery and they have never had a business before, they haven’t thought about everywhere their new logo will be used unless they get that expertise from someone. I’ve gotten pretty good at explaining these concepts to people and they typically respect my expertise and take my advice, but not everyone 😆
BlueLineBae@midwest.socialto Fuck AI@lemmy.world•Ah yes, Because That Is What Makes a Good LogoEnglish351·26 days agoEven if you took that image and used it to create a black and white illustration, it would be way too busy. The logo on the left isn’t exactly amazing, but it’s decent and checks all the boxes for usability and readability. The one on the right is more like… an image made for an ad which you can’t put on a hat for example. The amount of times I’ve had to explain logo basics to a client who want to do something like the image on the right isn’t great, but they usually understand why these rules are in place after explaining and they generally respect my expertise. But not everyone…

Heinz ketchup once tried to rebrand their ketchup as “hot dog sauce” to trick the good people of Chicago into accidentally tainting their hotdogs with ketchup. We remain strong and stubborn as ever, but that was a close one. Sometimes I feel like the people of Chicago would be more open to adding licorice sauce to their hotdogs than ketchup.
DID THEY EVEN SAY THANK YOU?!?!
This is going to effect a lot more than those real estate platforms. Not a lot of people know that the same systems are currently being used to artificially and slowly raise the price of typically cheap produce. The best example currently being potatoes. I’ve certainly noticed potatoes going up in price the last few years but didn’t think much of it because of all the crazy shit happening that’s making lots of stuff expensive. Turns out the reason is because of price fixing on staples and now it’s only going to get worse.
