Honestly, I think this skill could easily translate to one of those “lore keeper” or “continuity expert” jobs people have on TV shows.

I believe the problem is that it’s actively cooled, so it won’t get hotter under a blanket.

13·6 months agoYou’re right in theory, but in practice the point is that email survives because it’s not a closed, proprietary protocol.
Unfortunately I don’t think the issue is quite so simple. We used to have open chat protocols that were slowly strangled by big tech until only their solutions remained.
I think the biggest problem is simply user apathy, if users cared more we wouldn’t have the whole US green/blue bubble problem

101·2 years agoTraditionally, we the players paid for the servers. If it was a server browser game like counter strike, the various clans would pay for their own servers. Companies that sold gaming servers would also host some as an advertisement of how good their servers were

13·2 years agoYou…don’t believe it works like that? Ultimately a sponsor isn’t going to pay much if no one watches the spot. Advertising has always involved getting as much data as possible on how your ads are doing.
I don’t have any one definitive link that will tell you “this is how it works”, but I’ve picked up a few things from the various discussions I’ve seen some youtubers have.
