I will come and visit in a couple short years. But remember how bad blockbuster video was as opposed to every other small and big video rental place, grocery stores included? Edited movies, nothing unrated or NC-17 (unless edited down to R). This was a hindrance to many small distributors. I remember at a music festival Troma had a stand and they would give you a free DVD if you cut up your Blockbuster card. Blockbuster refused to carry Troma movies, of course
Hug yourself and hug everyone around you
Success! Thank you for hosting this and guiding me through access. Too cool
This is awesome and thank you! Is there a way to download the folders as a zip or something or do I have to download them images one at a time?
Also, it says that the folders are truncated and that 1000+files were omitted from each directory. Is this why there are 2 directories? Thank you again!
Like someone else said in the thread, every job I’ve had (I’ve been working for over 20 years) has had its share of negative moral implications.
During the second Iraq war I was unemployed and needing work bad. My relationship was suffering and we needed money bad. Minimum wage was $5.15/hr at the time and my friend told me of a job that was hiring on a temporary basis for over $19/hr, more than three times what I had ever earned. The job involved dressing up as an “Arab civilian” and assisting as a performer during mock battles on a military base testing sensors to be applied on the battlefield. There was even opportunity to time and a half over time for shifts over 8 hours. It was a ton of hurry up and wait and I don’t remember doing much of anything but standing around. I still feel awful about it.
Now I have a union job working in a sort of Library, and I wish I could say it was much better. But there is racism, classism, soul destroying needless consumption on an annual basis to justify budgets, etc etc. I could go on about restaurants and grocery stores and landscaping and construction and housing but dear god let me tell you they all have a way of weighing on your moral compunctions. I get sad when I think about how this is gonna be it forever until it gets worse and breaks, but the breaking gives me hope.
We drink like fish on 9/11, but our gold fish brains deny us the memory of why
I had a co-worker tell the boss “I don’t work on 9/11, it’s a holiday of remembrance for me” mentioning that he had family from new york. He was full of shit and just used it as a free day to drink.
This is my intuition, as well. If you look at the list of enemies the Archive has, it’s media conglomerates, publishing houses, paywall lovers, people wanting to erase inconvenient historical documents, the government and intelligence agencies, etc. It is a completely incoherent take to imply that the the Archive is representative of the US govt or a project of theirs. At least from my vantage point where all I see is some of the worst actors constantly hand wringing about the site as if it is some malevolent ass pimple.
