  • After looking it up, it seems I remembered some of the details wrong, but it’s the same family I was thinking of. I may also be remembering those wrong details from another story I read long ago, but my brain is basically a bowl of wet oatmeal at this point, so who knows.

Upon arrival, their bank accounts were immediately seized for suspicious activity (too many transactions). The wife made a tearful YouTube video criticizing Russia and saying she was ready to leave. The Kremlin took offense and the video was removed. The husband later made an apology video, saying their frustrations weren’t aimed at Russia as a whole, but that they were just frustrated at getting used to how the laws there work.

Good on them if they are doing okay. Russia isn’t a bad place, even if the government is shit. I wouldn’t recommend moving there during war time, but outside of that, you could do a lot worse. I visited Russia and Ukraine in the early 2000s, and loved both places. I actually wanted to move there for some time, but life happened, then war happened, and I found somewhere else that fit me a lot better. I really hope to visit again someday.

  • When they say, “Garcia is an MS-13 terrorist,” we need to say, “What do you offer as proof?” and keep asking until they provide said proof, concede defeat, or resort to force towards their questioners. Like it or not, we need to do the same for Democrat’s claims that he is a “family man”.

We absolutely do not need to demand proof that he is a “family man”. That is the “innocent” part of “innocent until proven guilty in a court of law”. The onus is on the state to prove he committed a crime. End of story.

  • So if you think all protest is good protest, then by all means, put on your “Palestine lives matter” T-shirt and start throwing rocks through people’s windows in broad daylight.

So you think people in this thread want all protest to start out as a riot. That’s not what anyone is saying. We are saying that when a disruptive peaceful protest turns into a riot due to the aggression of police or other agitators, the legitimacy of the protest is not diminished.

  • She had her chance, she’s extremely unlikely to get another one.

She had two chances. Her first one was an abysmal failure. If she had any sense, she would’ve learned then and there that her own party doesn’t even like her. And the only reason she got a second chance was because the DNC handed it to her on a silver platter. I get why they opted out of having another primary so late in the game, but she was the absolute worst choice they could’ve made.

This poll may as well have just asked people “which of these names do you recognize?”, because that’s really all it tells us.

EDIT: It just hit me that you meant she had her chance as the nominee. I’m dumb.

Are you saying the Stonewall Riots were an unnecessary part of the struggle for gay rights? Also, what effective tactics do you think veterans of the Civil Rights movement taught the gay rights protesters? Do you think they taught them to be demure and to not disrupt anyone’s day? Is that how you think the Civil Rights movement played out?

  • Polls don’t mean shit three years out. That said, this is still pathetic. Harris should be nowhere on that list, and AOC should be at the top. The rest I can kind of see making sense on this poll and with those numbers, being pretty much the only other nationally recognizable Dem names for most people.

While Trump didn’t get his Red Wave mandate in 2024 like he claims, there is no reason Harris should’ve taken such a beating. That election was a fucking layup, and Harris bricked it. I swear, nobody has ever given Trump more free press than the Harris campaign. The guy had been out of office for four fucking years, and she just could not stop talking about him as if he were the incumbent. She made every mistake and bad decision humanly possible, that it’s hard to believe she didn’t vote for Trump herself.

If Harris ends up being the nominee in 2028, we might as well just burn this whole motherfucker down.

  • I grew up loving The X-Files, so conspiracy stuff was always interesting to me. I never bought into any of it, but it used to be fun.

I blame reality TV for our current state. They took what was probably one of the best tropes in sci-fi, started talking about it in documentary form, and a whole generation of brainless fucking idiots took it way too seriously, ruining it for the rest of us. Shows like Ancient Aliens took the whole “just asking questions” tactic to insane levels, and it bled over into politics and social issues, providing cover for people to “question” if wildfires may have been started by Jewish space lasers. It’s so infuriating.

  • I knew this die-hard conservative MAGA guy, and we kept having this argument. He would constantly point out the homeless camps in California, blaming it on their “Socialist policies”. I kept pointing out that California has more billionaires than any other state, has the 5th largest economy in the world, and if that’s not the model of a successful Capitalist state, then what is? His answer was Texas. I felt like bashing my head against a brick wall.

That dude was nuts, but at one point I wore him down and got him to admit that CEOs are useless at best, and evil at worst. And I swear to God, he said “yeah, companies should just get rid of CEOs and be owned by the workers who vote on how to run the company.” My jaw hit the fucking floor. When I pulled up the Wikipedia page for Socialism, he completely reversed course. CEOs were suddenly very necessary and good again.

    He was so close.
