Our treasure and our blood.
Edit: goddammit I hate saying that because it sounds like a antisemitic trope, but it’s fucking TRUE. The greatest trick Isreal ever pulled was conflating a nation state with a people and a culture.

See how they specified “beef” dairy herd. They are talking only about the livestock. The animals. The veal. The cattle they breed. The animals they cull and sell. They aren’t talking about the lactating products.
Then you have milk. The product. Lactating dairy cows have a productive phase when they are kept specifically and separately to produce milk. I know it comes off as cruel but in agriculture animals are livestock and thought of in terms of lineitems when listed out.
I hope that helps. It’s a bad graph, the creater carved out specific data points for their own personal politics which makes it hard to read. (Hence the cute notes littered around the chart). I too would have wrapped dairy cows and milk production into one line.

Dairy is the farm, milk is the product. As to pollution and land use factory farms will always cause pollution because they squeeze too many animals into an area smaller then they can live in healthily for profitability. (Cows for example need 2 acres per cow in lush lands or 50 acres per cow arid lands).
As for chickens. In my opinion as long as you have at least two chickens (they are social animals), maintain them properly, protect them from predation, keep up with vet visits/vaccinations, and let your chickens out to forage, they are a wonderful addition to a neighborhood. But make sure you read up on egg safety, especially if you plan to share your eggs.

Any time I hear anyone pushing driverless cars or AI without mentioning public transportation, bike lines, traffic calming, or walkability I know they are full of shit. Just like the people talking about EVs being better for the environment but never mention any plans for getting cars off the road. I want trains god damn it.

I bought it at a thrift market and holy crap for a book written in the 1960s it’s prescient. He’s mostly talking about “poor countries” but a lot of what he says is painfully applicable to people living in the US today. I’m about to read the second half of the book about “rich countries” and can’t wait to see what he says.

That’s a dude that knows their food is literal poison.
No one should feel obligated to be an organ donor. And telling someone they must because they “aren’t using their body anymore” is fucked up. If a person has to be coerced, guilted or bullied into giving the “gift of life” they aren’t doing so freely. If they have to be manipulated into it then it’s not a gift. It’s theft. Nevermind the fact that corporations make big bank off the organ and tissue trade by piecemealing out donors and sellings the parts, but no one talks about THAT because lives are being saved.
(I’m not against organ donation. I just don’t like that we use manipulation tactics to procure body parts and that there isn’t transparency about who is profiting).

Your neighbors. Ask around. Someone knows where he lives. Then walk him home. He obviously lives close by. And if you don’t know your neighbors, today is an excellent day to introduce yourself.
Dude lives off raw road kill washed down with drowner brain cocktails. I don’t think the portal is why his tum tum is upset.

That’s were you messed up. Teenagers are supposed to drop themselves off at the fire station. For older kids they are called “Safe Places” and require them to do all the work.

If you’re alone. Call 911 (or your regions equivalent) and wait outside for emergency services. Keep trying to cough while you wait. If you see anyone flag them down but don’t go searching for people. I know you’re looking for a self heimlich but your safest bet is to keep trying to cough and to wait for emergency services or for other help to come along. Getting the thrust you need to clear your airway, especially while starved for oxygen, is not guaranteed. So if you ever find yourself in that situation call for help. If you start choking and you’re a healthy adult you’ll have 3 to 5 minutes of consciousness. Use it wisely.
You know how they feed a death row inmate a last meal before sending them off to die. Kinda like that, only more fucked up because our troops are going to die for the machinations of billionaires and warlords.

You’re welcome! Wow I forgot about those batteries, they were the worst! That’s an awesome board. I hope you are able to repair it.

Wear gloves and eye protection. Remove that battery and dispose of it in accordance with your local laws.
Gently scrub off and any residual acid with white vinegar and a toothbrush. Brush away or blow off loosened residue until it’s gone, just be aware it’s acid and where you are are sending the particles.
Let it dry. If the rest of the board needs further cleaning you can use isopropyl alcohol to finish it off.
After it’s clean make sure to check for damage before you replace the battery. It’s likely fine, but if it’s been sitting in acid for a while it never hurts to give the board a look over for shorts, cracks, or solder points that lost contact. If it looks good replace the battery and see if she works.
If you decide to disassemble your board to make cleaning easier, I suggest taking a few pictures first. The old MBs don’t have helper notches to ensure parts are placed in the proper orientation and documentation may be hard to come by.

That’s true. I usually don’t suggest it because when I worked on desktops I developed a philosophy with PSUs of leave them alone if they work and replace them if they don’t. In my experience PSUs are extremely tough, and even in the worst conditions rarely failed. It caused more harm then good to mess with them unnecessary.

When I worked at an eltronics recycling center (we repaired and resold PCs and printers) we used isopropyl alcohol in spray bottles to clean pc parts. It worked really well. Don’t dunk anything! Just carefully disassemble, spray the part (let the run off fall onto a collection pad), and let it completely dry before reassembly. It may take a few rounds depending on how dirty the part is, resist any temptation to scrub off build up on electrical components. If contaminates absolutely will not come off use a circuit board cleaning “paint brush” with circuit board pcb cleaner to gently clear it or better yet, leave it be. The enemy of good is perfect.
WARNINGS: Wear gloves, eye protection, and a mask. Follow all ESD safety protocols to protect computer parts. If you disassemble the cpu add more thermal paste. DON’T SPRAY THE PSU, if necessary use alcohol on a wash cloth for the PSU exterior. You can speed up dry time by air blowing excess liquid off but be aware this may splatter dirty droplets around the space. Only clean your PC like this in a well ventilated space. Only attempt this if you are comfortable disassembling and reassembling your pc. However long YOU think your computer needs to be fully dry, double that time to be safe.
Also as a bonus. You can put non electric components in the dishwasher. No soap, no heat, as long as they fit and won’t get dinged up by moving dishwasher parts. SERIOUSLY DO NOT HEAT DRY OR WASH ON HIGH HEAT.
I also throw my mechanical keyboards in there but there’s always a chance they won’t work after - so far tho it’s been a success (obviously I make sure they are fully dry before I use them . If you attempt this - at your own risk.

When we all switched in 2016-ish whatsapp and discord were pretty like-for-like for what my social group needed (and I agree, old discord had a much better UI). At the time Discord also had the added benefit of being easy to cross-platform with pc, which made online voice chat easier. (Vent had always been persnickety, and skype went from being great to trash almost overnight.) I don’t/didn’t have a problem with lag/bugs on discord but I tend to stay in smaller social circles, and actively avoid the unholy number of giant af chat groups that discord has spawned. Likely I simply benefit from not using all the app’s “features.” Doesn’t surprise me tho that with all the nonsense they keep shoveling in that people are experiencing slow downs and other problems. Textbook enshittification. Even if this latest debacle doesn’t do discord in, it’s only a matter of time.

I was in the military. Chat apps made it easy to keep up with friends and family even when we weren’t all in the same country. (Poor international communications is definitely a downside of standard phone services). But all of us all are back stateside now and it’s mostly been a gradual slide towards texting for my social group.
No no they “fixed” that because people complained.
Supposedly.
