All this is why we did it. But it was need for health insurance which led us to pull the trigger.

1·11 小时前That was my first thought, but that is way too tame to count as kompromat.

71·11 小时前It’s not even slow. I have been shocked at how fast they’ve been moving.
I know I shouldn’t have been since they’re known to have been plotting all this for years, but the straight out-the-door, unrelenting, unopposed rapidity of it all is something I was not prepared for.

news@lemmings.world•Measles cases confirmed amongst March for Life attendees last month in D.C.
2·11 小时前This is a terrible headline in terms of its usefulness. Contagious people also went to the airport, used the train, went to Target, the SSA office…

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Which high school friend took a path you didn't expect?
2·1 天前I’m twenty years your junior. My cohort has seen/continues to see a lot of opioid deaths.
It’s not the L. Where I’m from, the vowel sounds are different. Cock - like the O in “box”. Caulk - like “aw”, as in “dawn” (it is worth noting that much of the US has been losing the “aw” sound in that word, so that’s probably why I’m the odd one out).
It makes it more comfortable walking. The soles are stiff and do not flex with your feet.
I have a pair. They’re still commonly worn with kimono and yukata.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What is up with the trend of naming pets after food?
2·1 天前It’s been around for quite a while. Just a generic cutesy thing, I guess.
I couldn’t tell you how many "Waffles"es I’ve met or known of. Pancake is another popular one. I’ve known a Cornbread, a Brisket, a Tater, a Porkchop, two Tacos (both fat orange cats)…
A more recent trend seems to be naming pets after Japanese foods. Mochi, Miso, Udon, Soba… Or maybe it’s more of an East Asian food thing because I’ve also known a Wonton, Sesame, Bamboo, Noodle(s). Gohan (Japanese again and may or may not be a food reference).

World News@lemmy.world•The AI boom is so huge it’s causing shortages everywhere else The $700 billion AI spending spree has few precedents. Good luck finding an electrician or a reasonably priced smartphone.
4·1 天前You probably didn’t get any interest in the job because it’s too small to be a good use of their time. It’s a common problem for homeowners who need small jobs done by pretty much any type of tradesperson. There’s more work than there are electricians.
