Jim Howard-Birt 🐦📸: Photos@ohai.socialOPtoPhotography@fedia.io•A wild rabbit we encountered on an evening walk today3·8 days ago@acm_redfox@jawns.club thanks. It’s the only shot I liked this evening. First time in ages I took no shots of birds.
Jim Howard-Birt 🐦📸: Photos@ohai.socialOPtoPhotography@fedia.io•Had been sat in a hide for at least half an hour when this Heron rose up from the reeds directly in front of us. We had no idea it was there.1·15 days ago@TragicNotCute@lemmy.world I’ve been here three years in November, and I’m still not quite sure how all this works… 😅 thank you for the kind words…
Jim Howard-Birt 🐦📸: Photos@ohai.socialOPtoPhotography@fedia.io•Wild Rabbit in the afternoon sun1·15 days ago@TragicNotCute@lemmy.world thanks. Watermark may need a little tweeking so it’s not so “in your face”…
@alexf24@mstdn.social ???. We do not have Snowy Egrets in UK. So I’m 100% sure it’s a little Egret. [Egretta garzetta]
Jim Howard-Birt 🐦📸: Photos@ohai.socialOPtoPhotography@fedia.io•Female Kestrel on an old rooftop1·18 days ago@profgrumpypants@midwest.social thanks. unfortunately i’d need to take the shot again to remove the foreground blur. Aperture was wide open, would need f10 to 14 to get the detail you ask for. With birds, I’m always wide open, to allow faster speed options.

@peachfront@toot.community there were quite a few of them with black eyes, but all their flying and behaviour was perfectly normal, so I think they were fine.

Jim Howard-Birt 🐦📸: Photos@ohai.socialOPtoPhotography@fedia.io•so happy today to see so many insects in particular, Butterflies and Dragonflies. Hopefully we will see a recovery this year as last year numbers were poor1·27 days ago@peachfront@toot.community yeah. Makes sense. I loved the 400mm, and would have happily kept it, but I wanted more reach and couldn’t afford to keep both .
I’ve been shooting in bad light forever. [Comes with living in the the UK, and a love for woodland birds 🐦] so am fairly confident with handling poor light at narrower appatures…

Hopefully we will see a recovery this year as last year numbers were poor1·27 days ago@peachfront@toot.community do you use a 1.4 tele convertor with the 400?. If you do, it makes the 400 basically the same weight and size of the 600… it really is practically the same. The biggest drawback in my opinion is the auto focus is not as strong as the 400"s , but the opportunities are more frequent with the 600
