  • Winterbeast began production in 1985. Producer Mark Frizzell thought it would take a weekend to finish. By 1989, he pulled the plug.

Originally, the filmmakers imagined the Winterbeast to be a stop-motion creature. This became a guy in a costume, of which some footage was shot. When the film fell apart, Frizzell did a little stop motion bits between gigs at his day job to fill in the missing monster footage. The film as we know it was released in 1992.

So the monster you see on the cover is not actually in the movie, instead you’ll see some foolish claymation creatures.

  • Does anybody have the DVD of this movie? No matter where I’ve tried to watch it, I get a headache from the weird camera jitter that seems to happen on all versions of it I’ve tried to watch. I’m wondering if that is just the encoding for streaming or from the actual movie. I’ve been dying to finish it, but I just can’t.

  • Did you think that trailer was bizarre and terribly directed? Well that is literally the beginning of the movie… Yes, they show you a trailer with all the best parts before the title card. I watched this the other night and I have never seen a movie try so hard to fill 90 minutes. Certain scenes go on and on forever. There is a whole lot of heart in this movie, but the filmmakers just didn’t have the talent to pull it off.
