Personally i see UBI or similar schemes as a weak quick fix for a much larger problem. I’d like to see legislation around how an AI can be trained and if its using art, that needs to be properly licensed and not stolen. With the sheer amount of money being thrown around by big tech these days, I absolutely do not believe they can’t afford to pay people for the art they are using, and if an artist tells them to do one, they should fucking do one.

They are great, here in my hometown (Nottingham, UK) we have a little place called Louisa’s, and as far as I’m aware, she’s the only vegan chocolate maker in the UK. She does direct trade with small family farms so that everyone gets paid fairly (direct trade > fair trade), she also knows a lot about the cocoa plant and so will visit her farmers to help them grow better beans and ensure these farms are run in an ethical fashion.

Her chocolate is absolutely divine too, if you can, order from her.

I’m a web Dev and I use LLMs a lot, one of the best uses I’ve found is to make small tools, for example, I have a tool where I can specify a name and a list of variables, and it will output a stored proc template with my preferences, and some code that I can use in my chosen language to call the proc.

If I need to use a code library for a single task but it’s 3rd party and I’m not going to use it again, I’ll get an LLM to write me some examples so I can understand how to call the thing, saves me a lot of brain power.

I also use it to write me functions that I don’t have available but I know have been written a million times before, like an LPAD function.

I’m also using it for music recommendations, new version of chat can search the web and amalgamate multiple sources like Reddit, last.fm and give me a neat little report on bands I might like to listen to based off artists I give it, I’m currently using it to explore psychedelic music from places like Turkey.

I also used ChatGPT recently to generate me 2 images of a guy to get around discords age check so I didn’t have to give them my actual face.

I did try and get it to help me write a dating profile but everyone could tell it was LLM written so I binned it.

I’ve literally been saying that for years, like, no shit Sherlock this should be common knowledge.

My last few interactions with the police in Notts have been pretty dumb.

My neighbour was screaming some horrible things to a kid like “you’re a cunt” and “you don’t deserve to be in my care”. I called 111 because I didn’t think there was any violence happening but I was worried about the kid and the way they were being treated and said if you need to talk to me, they could ring. They sent out a car, was there for maybe 10 mins then rang me back and said it was fine they were “having an argument about something else”, whatever that means. Then I was called an hour later and was told I’d asked to speak to someone. I’ve no idea where that came from, I didn’t, I said they could speak to me if they need to multiple times on the call, unsure how that translated to me wanting to speak to someone higher up.

Time before that, they were out to investigate an argument between two 15 year olds at a local school, they sent out two cars and blocked both my driveway and my neighbours for over 2 hours, and refused to move their cars, even though there was plenty of space that wasn’t blocking drive ways, and they spent most of that time stood in front of their cars doing naff all.

The time before that I was punched in the face by some addict being a dickhead, I reported the assault, they called me 3 times to ask me where it happened, I gave street names, they said they couldn’t find it and asked if I had any CCTV evidence. I asked if I could send them a link to Google maps as they can’t find it and was told they’re “not allowed to use Google maps”. Why I have to do the investigation for them I don’t know.

Notts police are fucking useless unless they’re protecting the racist mobs that travel here to march. They also brag on Facebook about busting people for cannabis.

My last phone before this one was an HTC, and it needed a proprietary dongle, if I used a cheap one I’d only get sound out of one ear.

The proprietary dongle for the HTC at the time was like £16.99, which was close to what I was paying for headphones. (I’m still using a 20 quid set now).

I tried wireless earbuds but they’re quite heavy and my ear canals were getting pretty sore, I just don’t get on with them much. I know there’s one with clips that go around the ear, but I’m not a fan of that either, especially if I’ve glasses on.

To me, yep, absolute deal-breaker.

I’ve broken too many dongles and a couple of charge ports, I prefer to keep it simple.

Also the whole “if you need to charge your phone you can’t listen to music” thing is incredibly frustrating.

I’m not sure a license is the best way to go about it, but I certainly do think something needs to change.

I believe there should be some sort of minimum commitment to training if a person gets a new dog, i.e. you can have a puppy but you must have already booked up x amount of training sessions, and have vets appointments booked in.

And with cats, it’d like to see pre-booked appointments for neutering/spaying and microchipping, because apparently according to my neighbours, you can buy kittens, not do any of that and then just let them be feral around your neighbourhood and not really have to take care of them at all.

I’d actually like to see legislation on new cats not being let outside unless contained in a catio or something.

Dropped my fairphone 3 yesterday, smashed the screen

Really annoying I’ve dropped this loads and never broke it.

Not much out that I’m looking to play, there’s some slightly older survival games that I might have a go with like valheim and enshrouded. I’ve been told the new Dune survival game is good, but when I asked what the hook was, I was told it was “Dune like”, which doesn’t do a lot for me, though if anyone has any feelings on it I’ll happily listen.

There’s some new factory builder that looks like satisfactory but with wave defence like factorio, I’m very interested in that but forgot the name.

I’m also interested in the new hello games game (light no fire or something) but I imagine that’s a few years out yet.

I like playing games with my friends (rather than against them), and I like stuff that basically lasts as long as we want to play, survival games are great for my group because of that and 7 days to die will always be one of my faves.

Any recommendations for things I should look out for are appreciated. (already had our fill of Ark, Grounded, 7 Days, Empyrion, Minecraft)
