politics @lemmy.world•FBI warns Iran aspired to attack California with drones in retaliation for war: Alert
5·2 days agoAccording to google maps it’s about 7200 miles to hit the east coast or 7800 miles to hit the west coast.
So yeah technically closer but surprisingly close.
Plus going for west coast is mostly over ocean or China so less US military bases that would maybe be able to intercept it.

People Twitter@sh.itjust.works•Making grades meaningless so that everyone advances is doing a disservice to kids' education.
134·3 days agoI mean, it’s sort of preparing them for the real world.
Once they finish school it’s not like people won’t immediately start judging them and labelling them as failures if they can’t compete / keep up.
If you don’t change society before changing the school system you aren’t really doing the kids any favours by sheltering them.

politics @lemmy.world•Pam Bondi moves into military base amid threats from cartels and irate Americans: report
11·4 days agoWhy has she not quit? She insists on spewing lies for the Trump administration?
If she is getting threats now, does she think it will just stop one day?
If Trump dies and the admin decides they want a new face, does she think they will show any loyalty to her? She will be kicked out on military housing the next day and then need to fend for herself as people still threaten her for all the bullshit she did.
Is there something FOSS which mimics Microsoft excels “power query” allowing for automated data retrieval and data transformation to get it to look how you want?

News@lemmy.world•Trump looks increasingly desperate to restrict voting rights
11·6 days agoIt’s curious why they would want to implement this because although it affects poor people, it would probably also disproportionately affect poor Republicans.
Many voters in states like Mississippi/Arkansas do not have passports because they are both poor and have no intention to travel internationally so don’t bother with passports.
The only way I would believe Iran did it is if Trump claimed America did it on purpose.

I can get behind that Trump.
Wait, no it only works if shit has a negative connotation. The economy has Trumped the bed.

Climate@slrpnk.net•Bacteria in the ocean are starting to eat plastic. Let's think about this5·8 days agoThat seems quite fast.
How long have plastics been around? A century? Less?
When lignin in wood first evolved and trees became a thing 400 million years ago, it took about 100 million years before fungi evolved the ability to digest it.
There was 100 million years where wood wasn’t unable to decompose and just sat around or burned, creating all of our coal deposits.
100 years for something to evolve and decompose plastics seems lightning quick.

91·8 days agoYeah I’m curious how it was asked.
Cause of course women get abused that 100% is true, but there are definitely some women who lie about it. How many? Who knows. I would like to say only a few but I have no data to support it, I can only say it’s most likely non-zero.

Replace EVERYONE in there at the moment. Even if you think your current person is the one good one, obviously they aren’t effective enough.
Doesn’t matter the party, do not make it us vs them. Make it the people vs the government.
Just make a movement to completely replace everyone and make it clear to them that if they do not listen, their jobs are not safe.

I don’t think they care if it’s gambling or not.
They are trying to make the point that they shouldn’t be targetted if other obvious known sources of illegal gambling are being actively ignored.
Either they need to go after everyone or no one. Since going after everyone is probably unlikely, targeting Valve for it would be unfair and may be dismissed.
