The Amish community I know aren’t super strict. They use gas farm equipment and are fine with solar batteries. They just don’t want to be on the power grid.

I have a family of four in a 1000sq ft house and it’s honestly perfect. Any bigger would be too much work for me.

I still have my CRT and old game consoles and use them sometimes. The blurriness with the games doesn’t bother me, but maybe a movie would be worse. I am constantly forgetting my glasses though so I’m kind of used to blurry. I still might grab a VCR if I see one, though, just to show my children what it was like when I was a kid. Could be fun.

Ever since Disney announced they are also going to ban account sharing, I’ve been going to thrift stores and grabbing any DVDs my children like or might like. I’ve gotten quite a few classics so far for less than the cost of one month of Disney+. I almost bought a VCR because the VHS collection at thrift stores here is huge and they are so cheap, but rewinding sucks.

I worked as a baker for a couple years about ten years ago. During the summer, whenever it was raining, we would all take turns going out to stand in the rain for a minute just to cool off. I don’t want to imagine what worse would feel like.

Learning to make good Indian food was one of my covid lockdown projects. Buying whole spices and grinding them myself made a big difference, and using ghee.

Let’s say we do decide to torture murderers. Who is going to torture them? Are we going to pay for these people to have therapy (because they’re really going to need it)? How would you feel if you found out your next-door neighbour tortures people for a living? What do we do when we find out, years later, that we’ve been torturing an innocent person?

I think you need a little more life experience so you can realize that things aren’t as simple as you seem to think they are.

My mom didn’t let me use a calculator as a kid and I’m really glad now. I can do simple calculations much faster than if I had to use a calculator.

Same with French here in Canada. I took French for six years and I still don’t speak it at all, and I actually did really well in my French classes.

I’ve always been an atheist but I come from a Catholic culture and have thought about this a lot. I feel that religion is kind of like ancient group therapy and the practices have a positive social impact. Gathering once a week with everyone in your community, singing songs and talking about how to be better people just seems like a good idea

Maybe I was just lucky but I breastfed two children and nobody ever said anything to me. I did it in public and never used a cover. If I got any dirty looks, I didn’t notice.

Oh I know! It’s so weird. Ovens are probably because we get ours from the US, but why we do pool temperature in farenheit is a mystery to me.

As a Canadian myself, it really depends. Most of us only understand farenheit in certain contexts. Some of us can understand it for weather but I think that’s mostly older generations. I use farenheit for oven and pool temperature only. In every other context, it is meaningless to me.
