  • Humans are part of nature too, and we have our animal instincts same as any other animal. Only thing that differs is our capacity to self-reflect and exercise agency over our place in the ecosystem. What matters is that we have respect for life and don’t take it for granted. I agree that factory farms, hunting for sport or luxury goods like furs, etc. is wrong, but I don’t see a problem with a small farm raising some animals as long as they’re treated with respect and given a comfortable life. All animals - including us - are dependent on others for survival.

  • Pasolini, an atheist and communist, came close in the approach with ‘The Gospel According to St. Matthew’, but the result is a rather romantic vision of the life of Jesus, perhaps dictated by both the chosen source material and Pasolini’s ‘nostalgia for belief’.

As a former Christian and current socialist, it makes sense for socialists/communists to have a romantic view of the life of Jesus. It’s the one part of my old beliefs that I can’t let go of, since it shaped the values that I have now. The values that Jesus preached are often the same values that lead people to socialism/communism.

  • Agreed about Machado, but Maduro isn’t this populist champion of the working class he presents himself as. I’m about as convinced of Maduro’s commitment to socialism as I am of Trump’s commitment to “affordability.” He’s just another corrupt campist, willing to stoop to any means necessary to secure and consolidate his own power under the delusion that it’s the only way to resist US imperialism (while doing little to nothing to actually improve the living standards and autonomy of the working class).

  • The new wave of DSA-aligned progressives are running on an FDR inspired “Green New Deal.” If they get enough victories in next year’s primaries there could be a realignment of the DNC towards FDR style policies, so there very well could be an FDR type running in the 2028 presidential election with the support of the Democratic party. The wealthy donors who control the DNC would be forced to appease the base

It’s likely to be a very chaotic affair given Trump’s unwillingness to abdicate power. Unfortunately the only way I see trump leaving office peacefully is if his own party turns on him and votes along with Democrats to impeach him before the next election. Failing that we’ll get Jan 6 two: electric boogaloo and we get to find out if they worked out the kinks.
