  • To be clear, we don’t think the US is currently a particularly dangerous place to be trans - it seems it’s about in the middle. We’re worried about which way the winds are blowing. It is a BIG DEAL to emigrate even if you

    a) are not in an oppressed group, b) have economic privilege.

Waiting until a newly elected Trump invalidates your passport and makes “advocating trans-ism” illegal will make it MUCH harder to get out. We spent last summer in Uganda, we know what it’s like. We want people to escape, and offer options for people to do that.

And we think it’s “unlikely”, in the same sense as it being unlikely I’ll crash the car today, but still think car insurance is a good idea. After all, you’ve got an 82% chance of being just fine after playing Russian Roulette. Personally, I’m giving it just over 50% chance, but YMMV.

If you think we’re completely misreading the situation and it’s 100% not going to happen, then great - this isn’t your conversation. We’re happy to look like fools in a few years. If not, then what possible outcomes do you think there might be, what is the probability of those outcomes, and how do you want to react to that?

  • We offer pretty much the same as your consultancy for free. Drop an email to usa-campaign@transrescue.org if you want a free consult covering your options.

Italy will take people who have grandparents who were Italian citizens (with some details).

And your “self deportation” market is something we and others are actively trying to work on. It’s slow going - there’s a right wing everywhere. But yes, the current asylum system is bizarre - our passengers are mostly folks towards the end of college, those you’d want to bring in. We’ve got biochemists, software engineers, hardware engineers, psychiatrists, social workers, and attorneys here to the Netherlands. And they’re all sitting on their hands waiting for work approval. Instead of costing the NL money and making them miserable, the country could have more social workers (there’s a shortage), doctors (very much a shortage), etc.

  • Hello - I’m Anne Ogborn, the director of Trans Rescue.

We’ve had some wonderful folks step forward, but it’s clear to us that we weren’t clear in the original call for volunteers.

We’re assembling a media team because we know we’re going to have to educate a lot of American trans people about how to get out of the USA if we’re not to be caught flat footed by the election next November. So we’re asking for help primarily to develop educational content. We might do some fundraising among it (we do need money to operate), but the primary push is going to be educating fellow trans* folks on their options and about the complexities of migrating, and motivating folks to do what they need to do.

Anyway, if anyone out there would like to help with this project, please drop me a line at annie@transrescue.org

    Thanks

    Annie
