The next day…
😇: Hey thanks for babysitting the kids last night. Little Bobby says he picked up some new dance moves you showed him. That sounded like it was really fun!
😯: Oh, wow. What did he show you?

1·15 days agoMy apologies; I assumed COBs were a single chip. I had to search it to be certain. So it’s single\multiple raw led chip(s) [“bonded directly to the die”] inside a substrate as a single encapsulation package. In a SMD package the final encapsulation is just a lens.
Someone correct me if I’m mistaken.
Cheers.

Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•My apartment building gives me free water but I pay for electricity. What if I run the faucet nonstop and rig up a hydro turbine in my bathtub to generate my power from it?
1·15 days agoTrue – it would require a external heat source (wood, gas, coal, concentrated solar, etc) to boil water for turbine generated electricity.

2·16 days agoThey go out of their way to make a product look like cob lights. But I never found a true COB led in cheapo lights. It’s always a row of tiny leds under yellow tape.
For curiosity tinkering, grab some dark film (or a stack of 3 sunglasses lens, turn on the light, and be amazed just how teeny tiny the led die chips really are.
Similarity, about 5 to 8 tiny led chips are inside the filaments of these kinds of lights…

Was surprised xkcd didn’t mention steam boiler turbines.
