alternategait@lemmy.worldto Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? October 07English4·4 hours agoI did specifically like the MC for Nettle and Bone because while she was plucky heroine, she was also like … pragmatic middle aged woman which I like and don’t feel is quite so common.
Edit to add: I went ahead and looked it up. She’s maybe not quite middle aged being 30, but she feels at least more mature than lots of MCs.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•A cartoonist's review of AI art, by Matthew InmanEnglish2·1 day agoI like and admire visual arts. I wanted to try to be able to do the thing. I have a strong imagination and extremely good visualization skills, so I wanted to be able to take things from my minds eye to reality.
I have found much of my art/creative outlet in dancing and crafting.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•People who *don't* like math, why?English7·2 days agoI have a bit of dyslexia/dyscalculia so writing numbers from step to step often results in errors. I also had a bad teacher in 6th and 7th grade so I ended up with a lot of stress/shame which means I have a pretty significant gap in my understanding of concepts that has carried through every step of math since then.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•A cartoonist's review of AI art, by Matthew InmanEnglish5·2 days agoI have always felt that I’m not good at art (the practice I did got me not very far), and I’ve recently had reason to make little collages. One thing that I’ve done is uploaded pictures to Canva and traced them so I had something resembling recognizable images (my dog, me in a kayak). I don’t think tracing is making an art, AI is definitely not making an art.
I really enjoy T. Kingfisher in general though most of her horror books don’t effect me that much. That said I read The Hollow Places not too long ago and I was uneasy and spooked the whole time I was reading it.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does anyone know if there's truth to this?English2·2 days agoI just saw someone with an all I and a 1 plate. I mentioned the xkcd to my wife, but glat to have the reference handy now.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What seems to be difficult to many other people but isn't for you?English4·3 days agoI partner dance and I joke that I’m graceful as long as I have on dance shoes. Off the dance floor I’m always bumping into things, knocking stuff over, just generally klutzy seeming. On the dance floor I’m able to navigate the crowd and prevent collisions.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•How old are you (roughly) and how long does it take you to recover from illnesses and injuries compared to when you were younger?4·3 days agoI’m not quite 40. Last year I fell off a step and pretty significantly sprained my ankle. The instability and initial pain came down in about two weeks. However I was having a nagging/niggling pain for about a year. I finally got a referral for PT and that resolved it.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is your internet White-Whale?English2·7 days agoI don’t think this is the one I remember, but it’s real close and real satisfying.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What "deals" have you made with yourself that are real and practical for your purposes?English1·7 days agoI’m pretty certain that Budget Bytes taught me how to cook while I was in college.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•What "deals" have you made with yourself that are real and practical for your purposes?English4·7 days agoThis is your own thing, so I guess you do you, but you can certainly branch out and make delicious food with more ingredients. No take out doesn’t have to be beans and grains only?
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? September 30English5·8 days agoI’m reading Lady Eve’s Last Con by Rebecca Fraimow and listening to Roll for Love by M.K. England during commutes. They are both pretty fluffy, but fun so far
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Books@lemmy.world•What book(s) are you currently reading or listening to? September 30English3·8 days agoI definitely recommend it.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Is there anything you're into that no one or basically nobody is into?English5·8 days agoI have a friend who does temporary shelter for animals of people leaving abusive situations. It’s a very cool organization she’s part of and I kind of wish there was one around me. That said, I have too many pets as is to foster more.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is anyone NOT steaming their Music?1·9 days agoWhat a fascinating quirk. Do you ever get ear worms? Are you just generally indifferent or do you dislike music?
alternategait@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is anyone NOT steaming their Music?2·9 days agoInteresting. I like a pretty niche style of music and I feel like when they make suggestions after the end of playlists were regularly good enough to get added to the seeding playlists.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is anyone NOT steaming their Music?2·9 days agoI was using tidal for about a year but I just got really frustrated when my account got lost/interrupted when I updated my phone. I may go back for music discovery and playlists. However right now (and I plan for at least a few more months) I’m going to spend the money on band camp.
alternategait@lemmy.worldto Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Have you ever made money online?English5·9 days agoI highly doubt it actually costs anywhere near $10k to make such a bed.
What I’m saying is that adaptive furniture is likely a registered class II medical device which goes through FDA approval. So the bed isn’t 10K, but (a portion) the FDA registration is. The consequences of failing to register something that qualifies as medical devices are 1) fines 2) payments to anyone harmed and/or 3) time in federal prison.
Sure you could easily “disrupt” the market, but the market could easily disrupt the rest of your life.
restraints/locks/alarms for things that a cognitively impaired person might need, such as if they get up in the middle of the night
Restraints are 100% a medical device and I would highly doubt you would either be allowed to purchase or be reimbursed for one that’s not approved.
Edited to add: https://www.registrarcorp.com/blog/medical-devices/medical-device-registration/fda-class-ii-medical-devices/ A quick explainer (marketing from a business that helps companies register devices) since the FDA website is … not super clear nor helpful.
