I always go with Nature’s Power. Having extra speed and bow fire rate can be very helpful, especially when you miss with your missile weapon and you can’t recover it right away.

/me bows in reverence!
Good points. I hadn’t realized that going through a door restarts the timer! For removing piles of debris, the disintegration wand is also useful.
Well done, congrats! I didn’t have the stamina to ascend on my T1 run, getting the amulet was enough for me…
Gotcha – for me it was the first time. Also, I was thinking that maybe I had food issues early on because I started with a single RoH +0, so fights in the jail took a long time. Once I had both rights with a few upgrades, things got better. I seem to recall your seed gives you both rings at +2 early on, right?
Good luck with Yog! When I got the RoH + RoSS and saw how well they work together, I thought you had been right to plan your run around those :-)
Blazing is super powerful, but I tend to avoid it (unless I also get brimstone) because (1) my hero always ends up burning at least 2-3 times per game, always at the worst times, and (2) fire reduces dew drop opportunities and burns scrolls that you haven’t picked up. This is also why I tend to about the wand of fireblast. Maybe I’m doing it wrong, though!
This strategy sounds like it would definitely work for a T1 run. Combining ring of arcana with camouflage and rogue abilities is quite ingenious. Getting all the pieces does require a good amount of luck, though (I like to go with the roll of the dice and don’t often play known seeds).
One question, isn’t this a bit slow and repetitive to play? Having to wait nine rounds per enemy sounds like a lot of waiting.
Thanks for the encouragement!
I’ve done the exact same thing with a blast wave wand on the demon halls. They’re powerful, but a slight miscalculation and down you go.
Nice!
I’ve been trying to complete a 100% T1 run after reading some comments here. I’ve done two runs, and died on levels 23 and 24. So frustrating…
Thanks for the correction – I’ve fixed it.
I’m glad to know that a T1 run is possible with at least Warden and Rogue. I can’t even begin to imagine how you were able to complete those runs! Respect.
It’s also good to hear about other self-imposed challenges people have tried. Going potionless and/or scrolless is something I’ll try for sure in the future!
As @mrsemi said, mind vision (ability and/or potion) plus projecting allows you to kill mobs without them being able to retaliate. My second favorite enchantment is grim, with elastic a third, especially with a ring of arcana. The only thing I don’t like about elastic is that there are some enemies, such as gnoll shamans, that you want to keep in melee range.
To be fair, I think doing a limited tier run is easier than doing six challenges. My top is three challenges.
Do give it a shot; I’d like to know how that goes.
The first challenge is living long enough to become a battlemage: getting past the jail and tengu with only tier-1 items is hard. The second challenge is surviving the inevitable heavy damage in the city; in my experience viscosity and stone are almost useless with a cloth armor. But, by all means try it out! I’d like to know how it goes.
For a battlemage, hitting with a warding staff will heal all wards. That can make a high-level warding staff quite fun to play with, but it does require a bit of strategy and luck.
I think it’s there just to give you one more option. Besides, it looks pretty cool B-)
When playing with a duellist-champion, though, the runic blade has a very attractive ability: it increases the power of its enchantment by a ton. Once I got a projecting runic blade, and I could hit enemies all the way across large rooms. Very entertaining!
Nice! Congratulations.
Yes! That’s what I did. I needed to upgrade the leather armor to survive the jail and the first few levels of caves. Once I got the ring, I used the SoU on the ring and my thrown weapon (to activate the sniper shot). With the shared enchantment talent, the fishing spear became grim as well!
I’ll try it next time I get the wand. Following your advice, I want to learn to use it properly.
