30·2 天前The challenge I had as a kid was that everything was taught either as abstracts, or in ways that wasn’t interesting to me.
Like I remember so much math class, the teacher was using sports metaphors. And I remember tuning out the moment football was discussed.
Ooof, yeah reading their comments, I agree.
OP, if you’re reading this, start even smaller. Not everything has to be right in your house.
I been deploying web apps since 2010, and I jumped right into self hosting during the pandemic and it was a massive headache or challenges I wasn’t prepared to face or maintain.
I gave up (for now) and just used open-source apps and AWS, because I needed availability. And every few months, I do a bit more to one day move everything to pure self hosting.

4·2 天前You aren’t kidding. I played Kingdom Come Deliverance last year, when I learned about the second one. Was like wow.
Then read how they originally were courting the anti-woke crowd. Who later turned on them because the sequel has “woke” material.
Its great to not be a part of those GAMERS.

16·2 天前Assume all of the big ones.
Theres been a lot of positive GTA6 posts across a bunch of the internet, like how they’re “releasing it when theyre ready”.
Which is funny because a few days ago, they fired 30+ people who tried to unionize.

News@lemmy.world•Wendy's to close hundreds of US stores in bid to halt falling profit
51·2 天前Of all the fast food restaurants, I still go to Wendy’s like once a year. And you aren’t kidding. The 4 by 4 shrunk, and before, it was $4, but now $7.
The one-use app coupons brought it back down. But f that noise.
It’s still cheaper than the average lunch in my city, where meals cost $12-15.

8·2 天前More details please!
I have four.
Also gifts.
Also unopen and buried behind other junk.
I don’t think there’s that much crossover.
My cringe nerd friend has hundreds of funkos.
My cringe fashion friend has a dozen labubus and outfits.

World News@lemmy.world•Film festival in New York cancelled after China puts pressure on directorsEnglish
3·6 天前Zhu said the requests primarily came from directors based in China, who cited “personal reasons” for changing their mind about screening their films. Directors based outside China said their families back home had been contacted by the Chinese authorities, a common way of applying pressure to people beyond its borders.
Ah I see. So it’s films made in China, being shown in NY for their film fest.
Similar to America and Banning Books, these films now have when more attention as films China doesn’t want Americans to see!
Thank you Elong Munks

Games@lemmy.world•For those of you who enjoy open-world games, how big of a world is too big?English
3·8 天前Elden Ring DLC for me.
At least the main game, the world was kind of flat.
The land of Shadow’s map was kind of difficult to read. There was too many layers. Some things were underground. Some were above ground.
If the world wasn’t connected but broken by portals or something, it would have been fine. But condensed like that made it feel too big and I overwhelming.

4·8 天前This is it.
GTA 5 was boring when it came to exploring, much of it was pretty empty unless there was a mission. Elder Scrolls Arena was just random generated repeated stuff - miles of it. Assassin’s Creed Odyssey was a lot of copy and paste.

I would have done anything if my dad actually even acknowledged my hobbies.
But if you’re afraid it’s going too far, bring him to a anime convention. That’ll wake him up. (Or make him end up wearing cat ears)
And Elon Musk endorses him too!

I’d argue it did from my experience.
It boosted a lot of migration to… (Vomit) Microsoft Teams. Any company that was using Slack and Zoom migrated to a all-in-one package.
My company went with video sharing and chat open-source. Jitsi and zulip.
