If not any GPU can be an M.2 GPU, so long as you don’t mind the 4x lanes.
Plenty of riser kits available from AliExpress or similar etailors. I’ve got an old HP all-in-one I’ve considered strapping a GPU to for some encoding tasks (plex / frigate) but also for shits and giggles.

Actual transistor density depending on which fab you compare to is shambles.
It’s now a title / name of a process and not representative of how small the transistors are.
I’ve not paid for a CPU upgrade since 2020, and before that I was using a 22nm CPU from 2014. The market isn’t exciting (to me anymore), I don’t even want to talk about the GPUs.
Back in the late 90s or early 2000s upgrades felt substantial and exciting, now it’s all same-same with some minor power efficiency gains.

If it’s that shape but thin it would go in the bin tbh. Nothing worse than bending a spoon shoveling ice cream into my mouth.

dai@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Hundreds of smartphone apps are monitoring users through their microphonesEnglish2·15 days agoReally depends on what you want to do.
Same as any Linux system you don’t want applications to have root access all the time. However if I want to remove a system file or modify something that a normal user isn’t able to, something is going to require higher privileges than the standard user account has.
dai@lemmy.worldto Technology@lemmy.world•Hundreds of smartphone apps are monitoring users through their microphonesEnglish61·17 days agoGranting blanket root to all programs on an android phone sure that’s a risk; but who the fuck does that on any system…
From memory individual apps would be able to request root which could be denied, approved once, approved always or ignored.

Man I hope next time I press windows and type an application by name, or by executable.exe I get a spinning icon then a stack of unrelated web results that are probably malware.
dai@lemmy.worldto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•What are some FOSS programs that are objectively better than their proprietary counterparts?1·25 days agoIn love with Syncthing. Does my keepass database across my servers / laptop / phone. Was using Bitwarden for that a while back but decided I’d rather self host and run my own backups, with blackjack and hookers.
Great for hosting roms on my server and pulling over to whatever device needs them.

My old z390 itx system has a 16x PCIE to 4x m.2 card - leveraging an m.2 to 5x SATA adaptor with the built in SATA adaptors has given it plenty of space.
Considering I can grab m.2 to 6 SATA adaptors and fill the remainder of the slots that’s a decent chunk of drives from a single PCIE x16 slot.
Software is another kettle of fish and a good way to timesink, I’d rather not give too much of my personal experience as there are so many ways to skin that cat.
Yeah looks like the AU/NZ version of their site does not have those options. Not that I’d be out buying a new laptop anytime soon, but a used laptop 😎
Unsure if the issue is fixed upstream in the kernel however there are a few topics going in depth about this issue with some reported fixes / workarounds.

Ahh man, I’d almost missed my appointment with the psych’ recently. At least my new one is local and easy to schedule with, get along well and are happy to trial Dexies’ (been on Ritalin for ~1yr)
Previously I could only find someone to prescribe me remotely, I’d spent ~10 months waiting for an appointment for the Psych’ to quit that clinic. Waited another 6 months and landed a script.
For me it’s been a significant improvement to my life, just took me until I was almost 40 to get diagnosed.
