Very good question. Not too my knowledge. Mhmm

Giddy up!
wyze0ne over on the other site did the same today. This just be a record 😅
BTW, this reminds me of the plan for the first AA meta challenge: The Equestrian, where everything is horse themed, e.g. Headless Horsemen + FriodomRiders + Horse brush + Roam/Buttero/ any horse themed software
This little Rolli was produced right here in the old town of Lausanne, 5 minutes on foot from my apartment sometime before 1937. It’s in surprisingly great condition and I enjoy the mix of modern and old styles: The barber’s notch and the prominent etching on the face are clearly inspired by Sheffield razors of the second half of the 19th century while the fully chamfered spine and the transition from the chamfer to the square cross section of the tang can often be seen on modern (i.e., first half of the 20th century and later) German straight razors. I’m also amused by the mismatch between the small size (5/8") and these design cues from much larger razors. The mirror finish is also neat.
I prefer larger blades, but great shaves like today’s make me think I might not have right reasons for this preference.
Have you ever posted a photo of that Le Transatlantic? I don’t recall whether I ever saw it
I think it is all about geometry.
that would make a lot of sense
Sadly, my River Razors 6/8 has a bevel angle of 19.2 degrees.
Does that mean that it’s not a favourite?
Excelsior is the base I learned with most, and I think it might always have a special place in my mind. I just get such good lather from it. I’m not convinced Omnibus is a step forward (although it’s very good, too)
This concludes a week of shaves with 14-type razors with a stellar shave. After a lacklustre bout with the factory edge, I refreshed the edge, and there it is, that smooth, soft extra hollow feeling. This modern 14 is really on par with the Fili, Frio, and Henckels originals. I’m really looking forward to comparing this to the Moarteen soon.
Zenith extra soft horse ++;
Yeah, it’s quite nice. Nowhere near pristine, but in good enough shadow
Well, speick splash is a small enough investment to just give it a try👍
Looking forward to reading it!
Each cat their own rat.
Never heard that. I like it 🙂
ToBS is a bit iffy for sensitive skin though (background).
Shit, I just read @DaveWave94@sub.wetshaving.social’s skin care advice on your other question (thanks Dave, btw!). I had forgotten about your menthol sensitivity. Speick has menthol.
I overdid it with SSL and after my second AA with it it got vetoed by my wife😅
This is the razor that taught me that there’s a “numero sign” (№) in the unicode spec.
“Le Thiernois” is France’s equivalent to the “Solingen” or “Eskilstuna” brand (and, to a lesser extent, “Sheffield”) used by small manufacturers who think that their own name carries less weight than the fact that they are part of the knife industry in a city famous for it. Nowadays, “Le Thiernois” with that same art is a model of Thiers Issard, but this one’s still from before TI became the only known razor maker in Thiers.
It’s my only round tip 14 which makes it a great autopilot straight because it’s basically impossible to poke your cheek or nick your earlobe with this unless you do it on purpose.
The extra soft horse is a nice change of pace. The big horse hair bristles lather more slowly that boar or badger knots, but that also makes it easier to avoid fluffy lather.
Mühle Rasurlotion and Speick. They’re alcohol + witch hazel with a light fresh scent. The witch hazel makes me optimistic about the “plays nice with my skin” part.
Pitralon.
SSL++;
It was my AA soap two years in a row.
RIP 20.1
For today’s edition of running through the 14 section of my den, I chose the venerable Fili 14. It’s really easy to understand why they are so popular.
Big, elegant, soft as a feather, and butter smooth, you can just wipe the stubble of your face. So nice.
Yes, there is! The Goodfellas’ Smile – Re Nero
