That is significantly more complicated than how I was taught to sew in a button. Is this just for big metal buttons on jeans or something? It seems massively over the top for normal shirt buttons, which come off fairly regularly.

Roughly what I was taught (for a 4 hole button, in a “cross” shape):

1. Shove threaded needle through material into hole in button
2. Go across diagonally and go down through the opposite hole and through the material
3. Under the material, go across sideways a bit and come up in a different hole
4. Repeat 1-3 a bunch of times until it feels strong enough.
5. Tie off the thread and cut off the excess.

I own this physically. I only have a handful of graphic novels, so it’s a bit of an outlier in my bookcase, but I’ve always been pretty fond of this one. I was given it as a present many years ago.

I was always a fan of that “1950s vision of the future” style in art and architecture - and this very nicely pays homage to it, (and especially Dan Dare), whilst also gently mocking some of the more hypocritical elements of that kind of retrofuturism/nostalgia.

Imagine a jigsaw, except it’s table mounted (so you move the wood, not the saw), and the blade is really, really narrow and held top and bottom. Good for very fine work - like a powered coping saw or fretsaw.

I’m not sure to be honest - I’ve not noticed it myself through either the feddit.uk website or Jerboa (Android Lemmy App) - though I’ve generally only uploaded a few pictures of cats, rather than an artwork people might want to zoom into.

It’s also possible some of the lemmy instances might compress images more than others, or some of the other mobile phone apps may do something differently. It does seem to convert things to webp, so some conversion is definitely happening in there.
