I bought a lifetime subscription years ago, and even if the payment method got decrypted, it’s well expired. Not to mention I haven’t had a Plex server running for ages.

Google Pixel@lemmy.world•Google: 'Your $1000 phone needs our permission to install apps now'". Android users are screwedEnglish
2·2 months agoMediaTek or Qualcomm chips will be used probably, but to order cutting edge chips they’d need to order pretty high volumes to keep prices down, so the chip they order will probably be older. Though the Pixel 5 was one of my favorite phones, so if they can keep that level of speed on Android 16 then I’m all for it.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tesla FSD turns off more U.S. consumers than it attracts, survey findsEnglish
12·2 months agoPart of what pisses me off is that Tesla doesn’t use LiDAR, it uses cameras. So in sub optional conditions, like the ones where it kills people, LiDAR would resolve those outlier cases.

But this man never needs to worry about anything anymore. I’d probably “work every day” knowing that I have the pleasure of stopping whenever I want, and having everything you could ever want right at your fingertips at any given moment.
I don’t think that the founders are bad people. If you look at their history of work, they have done enormous amounts of work in the computer security sector. The founder, however, did run a cloud based WPA cracking service.
Meredith Whitaker, who is the president, used to work at Google doing research for “issues related to net neutrality measurement, privacy, security, and the social consequences of artificial intelligence”.
In 2018 she then staged walkouts at Google over concerns of sexual misconduct and citizen surveillance.
The people on Signal’s board seem to be trustworthy people with a pretty airtight background. You have to worry more about the mobile operating system compromising you than do you about Signal.

Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•The SteamOS era is imminent: Valve adds a new compatibility rating for games that’ll run on ‘any device that’s not a Steam Deck’English
41·6 months agoI’m hoping that the next gen Steam Deck gets a coprocessor that will allow it to use less power in sleep mode, and also download games and updates in the background while the screen is off or in sleep mode.

I’ve noticed that currently on Bitwarden, for auto fill it takes 6-7 seconds just to get authenticated with fingerprint and fill in the username and password field. That should hopefully be down to like 2 or 3 seconds.
