The state should not have the power to brutalize its own people. They should not have a monopoly on violence. Never again.

politics @lemmy.world•'Are We Really Living in a Democracy?' Asks Sanders After Musk Drops $10 Million on US Senate Race
32·15 hours agoWe are fighting harder than I hope you ever have to. When your city is under siege and 3000 masked criminals are running around the streets you grew up on UNCHECKED murdering and kidnapping your friends, then come talk to me. Motherfucker I’ve looked these fuckers in the eye and been trampled and gassed. We are bringing shit to people who are in hiding full on Anne Frank style. And you have the temerity to come on here, make assumptions, and tell me I’ve given up?? Why don’t YOU do something other than talk? Rot in hell. My issue is with someone asking if we are still a democracy. From where I’m sitting that is an asinine question. Fascism is already here. And I don’t really feel like hearing from anyone who is still leaving us here to deal with it on our own. And don’t call out my attitude, I no longer sleep or eat and couldn’t give a fuck.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Those of you who are angry at the US for allowing ICE to stifle people's liberties (including me) - how do you channel your anger and irritation?
1·2 days agoDude, I was born at United Hospital in St. Paul. I’ve never lived anywhere but the Twin Cities. These fuckers are 4.5 miles from my front fucking door. The shit I said wasn’t pulled out of my ass, that’s what the fuck we’ve BEEN DOING. And it’s working so I told other people about it, and for some reason that made you go off the fucking deep end. You need to get a fucking life. And fyi, I am at the Whipple Building EVERY FUCKING DAY so you can go FUCK YOURSELF.
Everyone else, take care of yourselves and watch who you trust. Assholes like this will ALWAYS try to weasel into shit and bring their negative bullshit. Get prepared and keep fighting!

7·3 days agoThat’s how I channel my anger and irritation at the US allowing ICE to stifle people’s liberties. That and blowing a whistle in their faces every day. I guess poetry just isn’t going to cut it these days. I find the things I listed answered the question for me, clearly they didn’t for you. You are welcome to completely ignore them. Only OP can speak for OP.
I’m glad you’re ahead of the game! That doesn’t mean everyone everywhere is, so I’m not sure who “we” is in your last sentence. You and…everybody?
Also, three people ahead of you seemed to find my comment helpful. The only unhelpful thing I see around here is your snarky af reply.

20·3 days agoStart moving.
Start knocking on all your neighbors doors and introduce yourself. Get phone numbers and set up a signal chat. Start now. Like 3 doors today.
Start stocking things like bottles of water, whistles, gas masks, high vis vests, weather gear. These are essentials for neighborhood watches. Portable chargers are also helpful. Identify places in your area that might be especially vulnerable.
Try to set up plans for people who may need to stay inside for their safety. Set up a mutual aid food delivery plan with your neighbors, especially neighbors who are not white, bc when people go into hiding they can’t go out to work or buy food. People also need things to do while stuck inside, board games, art supplies, books, etc.
Find or start training sessions for citizens on their 1st and 4th amendment rights. Monarca is active in MN, there might be something similar near you.
Have a place where people can upload videos and document everything.
Contact your representatives, now. Actually call them, you can just google them and they will have an office phone number. There are scripts online if you’re unsure, but just tell them what you think and the urgency of the situation. Start with your city council person and go right through to your senators.
These are all things that will make you feel energized instead of listless, connected instead of isolated. Relieve your stress by working to plan to fight back now. I hope the time never comes, and if it doesn’t, you’ve channeled all the crap into something productive and come together with your communities to get educated, get organized, and get more caring to one another.

3·3 days agoIt is happening all day, every day. Your one experience is your one experience. You are denying the experiences of, right now, countless others. Every response you have is, “but when it happened to me.” Cool. It might be different for Americans with Somali heritage in MN right now than it was for Americans with Asian heritage weeks ago in Portland. You are telling a whole group of people to deny their eyes, ears, and rational thought because you had an encounter with one agent on one day.
I appreciate the sentiment of your post, people need to protect themselves and the people around them however they can. But stop this nonsense about how it’s “80%” going to get you out of being beaten and taken to the Whipple building. That’s a number you absolutely made up and keep repeating like it has any validity whatsoever.

Show them what you want, or don’t. They will do whatever they want. Please understand there is not a magic ticket to get them to leave yo alone. They are not constrained by laws, they face no repercussions and they hate anyone not maga
