If you get a pihole or related project, you can see what packets are going in and out. It’s eye opening what is pulling what.

I’ve run one for a bit of time. You are correct it’s very easy to admin and good for less than 10 users. But it’s awesome for family instances. And even better, the clients all work with it.

Runs well on a pi.
