mesa@piefed.socialOPto Meshtastic@mander.xyz•The Practicality Of Solar Powered MeshtasticEnglish3·11 hours agoLets say I want to talk to a buddy of mine a couple of miles away. I can see him via one node away. Sometimes when I message it doesn’t show up. Sometimes none of the messages show up if its a busy day.
This isnt an isolated problem. Ive had my node on my roof for over 2 years now. Its a bit sporadic no matter which device I put up there. Threw an RTLSDR up there and found there’s a lot of traffic happening around the US frequency in my area. But it shouldn’t affect it all that much. Hope that makes sense!
I own 4 meshtastic devices. They are awesome when they work! But I personally wound’t rely on them for communication. An old walkie talkie would probably get better reception if need be.
Now I want to see some violent code!

Im in an area where it gets very warm and almost no rain. Also its 50c a KWH…so solar is definitely something we are looking to get soon.

mesa@piefed.socialOPto Meshtastic@mander.xyz•The Practicality Of Solar Powered MeshtasticEnglish6·15 hours agoits a fun project…but I have real problems making meshtastic reliable as is.
Im hoping meshcore can eentually backport things into meshtastic. Or meshcore becomes a more open standard. Both could work.
Lol yeah.

Reminds me of this but with databases. Just pipe to dev/null
Iterative development is really good. Isolate and change a thing, see what behavior it does. See if user is happy. Push. Repeat.
Senior Dev: removes line of code. Suddenly works.

…I should probably upgrade my setup at some point haha.
mesa@piefed.socialto No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why is it called linux phone?English3·2 days agoTheres online tutorials but they are VERY specific on each phone, sometimes serial numbers are what you have to look up. It sucks and is more likely to brick your phone than anything else.
mesa@piefed.socialto Peertube@lemmy.world•NASA's Plan to Build A Telescope on the MoonEnglish1·2 days agoThats awesome.
Take a look over at: https://piefed.social/f/fediversevideos if you want to see a collection of videos from a wide variety of instances.
I like subscribing to channels via piefed OR on my home peertube server and use it like youtube subscriptions. I pick the best (or to me interesting) and post it over at !peertube@lemmy.world .

Overall peertube is seeing a gradual increase in number of users and servers getting started up. Although its hard to tell with servers starting to implement anti AI and tracking software (makes it hard to find out numbers on certain trackers).

https://docs.gnunet.org/latest/guis/gtk.html is a good place to start after the installation from what im seeing.

I recall https://www.gnunet.org/ but its been a LONG time since ive played around with it.
mesa@piefed.socialto Fediverse@lemmy.world•PSA: In case you were experiencing problems with feddit.org, this is because a post from feddit reached the front page of Hacker News.English1·2 days agoVery interesting idea. Peertube already does this sorta. The p2p nature means the more traffic/servers, the less load the original instance has to push.

I remember some semi popular lemmy servers have decided to shut down, which left some holes…if I were to guess. Piefed is also pretty easy to standup.

We still don’t know what all the Dna and RNA does. So the rich would just be testing with their own kids.
