Android@lemmy.world•Is it a good idea to get the Xperia XZ1 Compact as a secondary phone and install LineageOS?English
2·5 months agoI am typing this on a Samsung Galaxy Tab with the latest LineageOS. I have flashed 6 or so Android devices by now, have never bricked one. I did have to reinstall the factory firmware on one after discovering that it did *not" support VoLTE, so it was good for everything except being a phone.
That said, it is quite possible to brick your device. If you are reasonably comfortable with CLI commands (I used Linux for all, no idea if its even possible on Windows), can follow instructions, and observe small anomalies, you should be fine. The problems usually start when one step of the procedure doesn’t quite match what it says…
Also, you are probably going to forego the Google App Store. There are several FOSS app installers, F-Droid is one.
Lineage is great. I have had zero stability problems. With the officially supported devices, you get regular updates, the update process is simple and reliable. YMMV with the unofficial build.
She does not throw up much, and we don’t have a carpet, but, yes. Must be careful to only have cat safe (and not valuable) plants around, they will nibble on them.
Not putting my hand in there, that’s for sure.

12·5 months agoThat’s her sister Lizzie. When she vocalizes, it’s always an exclamation.
“There’s a strange cat outside!”
“I hate the vacuum cleaner, could you not?!”

4·6 months agoI have two cats. They have taught me: “you do you”:
Lizzie sweeps the floor around the food bowls with her paws after eating. One can’t be too neat.
Emma collects little rugs and rags at her favorite scratching pad. I really can’t think of a motive for this.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Pros/cons to legalize marijuana in a countryEnglish
21·6 months agoBackground: I haven’t used weed in decades, I have no personal interest in its legal status.
I can’t think of a single bad thing that has happened. People are more open about smoking, you can smell it in the street sometimes. I live in a tourist destination, there are ads everywhere for dispensaries. I assume getting high is at least part of the attraction for visitors.
Also, I assume it has had a negative effect on illegal drugs - why bother? - but I wouldn’t know anyway.
Yes, I supported it at the time, have not changed my view.
She knows it, too. She usually does her best “Oh, do you like me?” look, like this, when she catches you looking at her.
She really likes boxes, too…

2·9 months agoThank you for reminding me: I have an electric shaver that is perfectly good except the batteries do not hold a charge.
Being able to do this kind of repair will save you money in the long run, as well as keeping stuff out of the waste stream.
