Buy European@feddit.uk•Europe gets serious about cutting digital umbilical cord with Uncle Sam's big techEnglish
15·5 days agoFiling taxes in sweden means going to the tax agencys website, identifying with your phone, and they already have everything pre-calculated so you just sign it digitally, takes 5 minutes. If you ignore it I think it’s the same as accepting it after a certain date.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Whats the most Fediverse "Thing" you know of?English
33·5 days agoIt may seem like we all run Linux, but some people run BSD too.
I agree, I’ve been running debian for, idk, 10-15 years now. Sometimes I try other distros, but Debian feels like home. I love how they use Condorcet voting, the social contract, the community.
Debian currently has some drama in their ftpmasters team, they argue with the debian project leader, then their team was disbanded in favor of two new teams, then some quit, etc. Seems like the usual open source way of doing things. Hopefully it won’t affect the releases.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Why GrapheneOS is Almost Impossible to Crack (Forensic Teams Have Tried)English
2·7 days agoThe pro versions will be much more expensive than the “a” models (like 9a, 8a, 7a, etc), if you can find an “a”-phone, it will be cheaper. I would get at least an 8a, since they have support until 2030 or something like that, the 7a has support until 2027. The 6a is the oldest one which still has support, but only for a year or so more iirc.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•To Lemmy people who came from reddit: Have you guys tried other fedi software like mastodon or sharkey?English
6·7 days agoI use both and I agree. I have a different mindset on mastodon, there I care more about who is saying something than what they say. I have a small group of people I care about. On lemmy/piefed I care about what someone says but not who they are. It’s all about the topic.
Same, I migrated storage to nextcloud on hetzner, but I’ll keep my protonmail and a cheaper proton subscription than I had before if possible, or else just the free tier. I’m just not sure their heart is in the right place. For example they have social media presence on basically all platforms including X, instagram, tiktok, linkedin, reddit, threads, facebook, whatsapp, etc, but they closed down their mastodon account because of lack of resources.

6·7 days agoI got a pixel 9a for 370 euro in Sweden, which isn’t too bad. You can get a good refurbished 7 for less and it will have support for years to come.

Privacy@lemmy.ml•Why GrapheneOS is Almost Impossible to Crack (Forensic Teams Have Tried)English
8·7 days agoIn my country everything is built around this 2FA app that requires Google Play Services. But a phone with GrapheneOS and sandboxed google play should be better in total than just running stock android I guess? I wish I didn’t need google play services, but currently I do.
I have never felt comfortable dancing in public, and thought it was because I was shy or something. Then I realized that I just didn’t like the music. Now I dance at home to Godspeed You! Black Emperor. I probably look insane doing that, but it comes naturally and feels good.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•If you had to replace the floppy disk save symbol in software with a new symbol for saving what would you choose and why?English
1·8 days agoI like it because saving is writing. Like in ed(1) or vi(1).

There is even an IANA RFC for three-letter acronyms (TLAs) (RFC5513), which says:
"For our usage, we also allow digits within a TLA. Thus, P2P is an
acronym meaning Purchase to Pay [URL-P2P]. The digits 2 and 4 are
specially used by clever people who have noticed that, when spoken,
they sound like the words ‘to’ and ‘for’. Whether this is helpful
may be left as an exercise for the user considering the brief
conversation, below.A - Do you use the Internet Streams Protocol?
B - Yes. Do you use ST, too?
A - No, I use ST2.
B - That’s interesting. C uses ST2, too.
A - I have a car horn application called Toot-toot.
B - Really? Do you use ST2 to Toot-toot, too?"
