Can’t tell if /j or /srs but upvoting anyway
Totally on board with the message, but, isn’t this, like, a direct violation of rule 2? Or are we going with the Gamer™ definition of “politics” where any stance that the community agrees with is inherently non-political?

Reddit@lemmy.world•Two accounts on Reddit post 30%-50% of all content on r/conservative on a daily basis except one day when there happened to be a power outage in part of Moscow

Q: Now that Stalin has died, what happened to his cult of personality?
A: The personality has died, that is true, but the cult lives on.
“Advanced Privacy” app on /e/-os (opensource android ROM) sends me occasional notifications about apps with most trackers haha. Also has a “wall of shame” (it’s literally called that) where you can browse the worst offending apps

Pretty sure there is a sizeable demographic of people who fantasize about falling in love with an elf precisely because their relationship would be like that of a pet and owner
EDIT why did I have to go and type that out. Cannot stop thinking about 1000 year old condescending dommy mommy elf GF now. fml
It’s far more racist to assume only minorities work for Door Dash
Yeah agreed. Racial profiling is still racial profiling, using euphemisms like “lower class” and “minority” instead of the usual slurs doesn’t make it okay.
The original headline is “‘No Way to Prevent This’ says only country where this regularly happens”. If you look closely at OP’s meme, you can actually see the font changes after the “only” (baseline is slightly lower; uses lighter color; kerning of
evein “Prevent” is completely different )But yeah shit take anyway, just because the US is famous for shootings doesn’t mean that it’s any more dangerous than other country

linuxmemes@lemmy.world•My hot take on the official pronunciation of GNOME
2·3 months agoI personally pronounce it with a hard G even when talking about the mythical creature because that’s how it’s pronounced in most other languages that have a similar word. Anglos can go fuck themselves with their needlessly complicated phonetics.
Just for anyone else in the thread: this doesn’t work lmao.
I used to be depressed and anxious af. Took a break from uni, moved back in with my parents, went to therapy, got better, joined a book club, started hanging out more at social centers and talking to people, got a part-time job as a waiter, started working out and paying attention to my looks… still no gf. You can’t become a successful person by merely going through the motions of what you think a successful person’s life looks like. You can’t cargo cult your way into happiness.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK that cholesterol is only found in significant quantities in animal products.

2·4 months agoCan we stop with this subtle EU propaganda slop? I LIVE in an EU country and I have the exact same problem with modern movies. This has nothing to do with who gets to make the laws, there are only two reasons why everything needs subtitles now:
- Because of advancements in microphone technologies, actors don’t need to speak as clearly and are getting lazy as a result.
- Movies producers are assholes who think that everyone has a 50000$ surround sound home theater system and master the movie soundtracks accordingly – which makes explosions and action scenes sound WAY TOO LOUD on normal people sound systems.

You Should Know@lemmy.world•YSK: there's a browser extension called "SingleFile", which allows you to save any page into a single HTML file.
1·4 months agoAlso recommending ArchiveBox – it takes the shotgun approach to archiving websites, making snapshots with a bunch of different tools, singlefile being among them. You can use it as a one-shot command, or run it as a web server which provides a UI for archiving web pages. Linkwarden is similar.

Open Source@lemmy.ml•Is there something like GitHub, but without big tech involvement, no data collection, no ads, open source, and preferably decentralized (maybe Fediverse or even P2P)?
47·4 months agoForgejo is an activitypub-enabled Git forge software, and codeberg is one of the largest forgejo instances.
Tangentially related, but git-annex, and, in particular, its sync subcommand are a great tool for storing files and managing git repos across multiple machines (and even just loose drives) in a “P2P” way without any centralised server

1·4 months agoThat’s… putting it mildly. It was a straight-up landgrab, a classic war of aggression.
I’m not good with words haha. When it comes to difficult/sensitive things I sometimes fall back to caveman speak more or less (in any language). Sounds like you got what I’m trying to say tho, so whatever :)

It’s not good that Putin commanded the russian army to invade ukraine under the pretense of “denazification”. It wouldn’t have been good under any pretense. Innocent Ukrainians are dying, getting injured, being displaced in the name of “nazis” that don’t exist. Ukrainian culture is being erased in the flames of war. Russia’s invasion of ukraine bears many characteristics of a genocide, and there is no denying that putin’s army has committed and is committing war crimes. It’s not justified. I believe that it wouldn’t be justified EVEN IF Putin’s false narrative of “denazification” was true. Not only Putin, but his entire chain of command, various pro-russian oligarchs, corporations, and individual soldiers are all responsible in some part for this travesty and, in a fair society, should be served justice accordingly.
How’s that sound? Honestly I don’t really care what that you think of me, this is just my personal opinion on the matter. It’s what I tell my friends, coworkers, and people I meet at social functions (it seems my Russian accent often makes people yearn to know what my stance on the matter is, especially when they’ve had a few beers). I know it’s not the most pro-Ukraine take out there, but what matters TO ME is that it is my genuine opinion and is consistent with my moral framework and understanding of reality. I really hope you can say the same for your opinion, even if it differs from mine.

At this point I have completely given up on printer drivers. I just put files on a usb stick and plug it into the printer to print. Printer doesn’t have that functionality? Oh well, it’s as good as broken to me. Biking to the local library will take less time and kill less nerve cells than troubleshooting that piece of crap. I can only pray for people like you who have to work with this mess on the daily.
