  • I think that this should be done on the network level by providing a DNS Server via DHCP or include filtering in your router if you are afraid of users changing the DNS Server (but maybe it’s better to lock the network settings in this case).

But I see that not every User has the possibility or ability to do it this way. therefor having the option to do it in the OS is feasible for these users.

  • I didn’t fully get your last part? Do you mean you have not heard of BTRFS and snapper or what a bootable snapshot is?

    Maybe in advance:

Snapper and BTRFS Snapper is a tool for Linux file system snapshot management. When used with BTRFS it can create bootable snapshots of your system including things like:

    • Kernel
    • Root filesystem (/usr, /etc, /var, etc.) These Bootable Snapshots then Show Up in Grub as bootable entries.

This is particularly useful for backup and recovery purposes. On openSUSE a snapshot is created everytime you run zypper (package manager) to install a package or update your system. It will exclude your home directory from the Snapshots. So changes made there are not rolled back in case you want to rollback to an older snapshot.

I especially waited for the Parental control features to land in GNOME 50. Great to see they made it into the release. Now I don’t need aditional tools to enforce bedtime for my son.

Document annotations in the Document viewer is also a nice thing. But I would rather have proper Signing support via certificates for professional use cases.

  • Thanks for the comment. But I think something like a simple budgeting tool does not really fit my need. I could use my existing banking solution and achieve the same thing. But I want harder restrictions like:

    • Sent some money once per month
    • No possibility to exceed the budget, because it is not linked to my bank account whatsoever
