Man, I wish that was the case at places I worked at. My last company would give you stipends for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Try to spend that stipend at a convenience store because you don’t eat breakfast and just want some coffee and a snack for later? Screw you, we’re deducting from your paycheck for that.

I had a coworker who got caught on the wrong side of that policy. Since then, he’d always max out his stipend at every meal. Apps, desserts, etc. He’d get a second entree just to take back to his hotel as long as it wouldn’t put him over the limit.

He probably cost the company hundreds extra because they wouldn’t reimburse him for a bag of chips one time.

  • I felt so defeated when I went to pick up some medication last night which was $100 instead of $60 which it had been the previous month. I asked if there were any coupons available and the pharmacist said that was AFTER the coupon price. $100 for 15 pills.

I’ve been paying out of pocket for this med for years since my insurance company determined I had reached the “lifetime benefit limit” for that drug. I submitted an appeal earlier this year and was shut down. I’ve talked to my doctor about alternative drugs, and he said pretty much all the rest have significant side effects.

And after this week’s elections, I’m sure it’s only going to get worse over the next four (or more) years.

  • An improperly wall-mounted LCD isn’t a huge falling threat unless there’s a child or pet under it though.

I would expect most injuries from tube tvs would be muscle related from lifting them, with the occasional severe shock from those who were brave enough to open them up for repairs but not smart enough to discharge them properly.

  • I like it so that the USB C will last longer. At least in theory.

It’s more than theory in my experience. I had a OnePlus 5 and lint completely ruined the USB-C port. I could spend 10 minutes trying to dig stuff out and get the cable right for it to establish a charge before I finally gave up and upgraded. It’s why I’m not AS annoyed that the wireless charging add-on takes up the port. As long as it’s also keeping debris out of the port (and the rest of the phone continues to run well) I’ll live with it.

  • The phone or the OS? Hardware wise, my only gripe is the lack of wireless charging. I use an aftermarket plug to add it, but it doesn’t put the charge pad quite in the right place, so I sometimes have to put it upside down. It also means the USB-C port is always occupied. That isn’t a huge deal for me as I like to use plugs to keep dust out anyway

Software wise, I’m still running regular Android. I don’t like that there’s no Gallery app. You have to use Google Photos. That coupled with the fact that .nomedia files don’t seem to work mean that the app shows ALL photos on your phone, including some you might want to keep private.

Other than that though, I’m pretty happy with it. Just upgraded mine to 15.

  • My dad pays for the NFL.com package and YouTubeTV (not premium, and even more expensive package than that) so he can watch all the games. I dread every season because of the inevitable bitching about one or both services.

He has an elastic band he puts up to block the score ticker on the bottom of the screen, and he’s constantly terrified that they’ll cut away from the current game for an update on another one he hasn’t watched yet.

I feel like there’s a real market for the old Red Zone channel that DirectTV used to do. No commercials, no breaks, just snap, play until the whistle, then fast forward to the next snap. It only showed gameplay when one of the teams was in the red zone(hence the name), but I bet people like my dad would pay enough to offset the lost ad revenue if they covered the whole game like that.
